Luau, The Main Campfire, Friday evening

The main campfire had been turned into a tropical paradise... without the tropics. There were leis and grass skirts to wear, tropical music playing, a buffet table, and the infamous Limbo Stick of Destiny, an artifact brought back to America from World War II. Noody knows what happens when a person wins a limbo competition involving the Limbo Stick of Destiny, but several experts on the subject suggest that "absolutely nothing happens except maybe you win a little trophy."

It was party time at the Fandom High Summer Camp.

[OOC: OCD is up. Yes, there is pig, poi, and sometimes the band will switch from generic tropical music to 60's beach movie music, or maybe reggae, or Raffi. They're unpredictable like that.

The luau takes place during a long break in the rain that [livejournal.com profile] fh_weather is reporting. Yes, I'm modding the weather. Admin privilege.]

"I'll be fine," Sam smiled, "but I appreciate your concern. One of the best things about this place is the lack of traffic."

"Interesting evil, I hope?"

Tempe stared. "Um, yes, of course. Good."

"Absolutely interesting evil. The only way to successfully take over the world is if you have anthropological tidbits like these."

She snickered. "You missed my grand plan last fall--Elizabeth and I were going to paint a large picture of a nude female breast on a blimp and take over the country it was flying over while all the guys were mesmerized."

"You want in?"

Tempe laughed. "Oh, I'm sorry I missed that one! That would be one I'd have loved to be part of."

"To take over the world? Absolutely."

"Cool! We could always use someone else on the list. Plus, it means we can leave Daniel at home, and make this an all female takeover." Sam smiled. "And we didn't implement the blimp plan--it's still in reserve."

"Oh good! So I didn't miss it," Tempe replied. "And of course, as females, we should definitely rule the world. With an anthropologist, and a...um, whatever your specialty is, we'll have no problem." Tempe shook her head. She couldn't remember whether Sam had told her what she was good at. All she did remember was that she wasn't so great at cooking, and loved the blue Jello.

"And if all else fails, we can just throw Jello at them," Tempe said, smiling. "But not the blue kind, of course. We'd be much better off to eat the blue and throw the yellow."

"Astrophysics," Sam told her, "with a fun sideline in building some things and blowing different things up."

"Ew, yellow." She made a face.

"You...are definitely the kind of person to know," Tempe said, a small smile gracing her features. "Ever blown up anything interesting?"

Tempe snickered at the look on Sam's face. "Yeah, yellow was never my favorite, either. Some flavors just shouldn't be Jello-ed."

"Yes," Sam said, still not completely comfortable being open and honest. Besides, people looked at you differently once you told them you'd blown up a sun.

Tempe looked at the look on Sam's face. "Did I say something wrong? If so, I'm sorry. Sometimes I forget that some questions are just off-limits, no matter how curious I am."

Then, to cut the awkward silence that followed, Tempe raised her glass and said, "So, how about this pineapple drink, eh?"

"No, it's me, Tempe. There's just stuff that happened before I got here that I don't tell people--you couldn't have known."

"It's very pineappley."

"It's okay. We all have demons in our past. Skeletons in our closets, if you will," Tempe replied. "If you ever need someone to figure out how the skeleton died, however, I'm your girl."

Realizing what that could have sounded like, Tempe was quick to correct herself. "Um. Because of the forensic anthropology, I mean. Not because I want to look at your skeletons."

A pause, and then "That sounded bad. Maybe I should just stop talking." Or possibly spike this drink, so at least I'd have an excuse for the complete idiot I'm making out of myself.

"Yeah," she continued, looking at her drink. "Must be made with real pineapples and everything."

"I don't have any real skeletons, unfortunately," Sam said, sad to deprive Tempe the opportunity of playing. "And don't stop talking. I knew what you meant, honestly."
