Luau, The Main Campfire, Friday evening

The main campfire had been turned into a tropical paradise... without the tropics. There were leis and grass skirts to wear, tropical music playing, a buffet table, and the infamous Limbo Stick of Destiny, an artifact brought back to America from World War II. Noody knows what happens when a person wins a limbo competition involving the Limbo Stick of Destiny, but several experts on the subject suggest that "absolutely nothing happens except maybe you win a little trophy."

It was party time at the Fandom High Summer Camp.

[OOC: OCD is up. Yes, there is pig, poi, and sometimes the band will switch from generic tropical music to 60's beach movie music, or maybe reggae, or Raffi. They're unpredictable like that.

The luau takes place during a long break in the rain that [livejournal.com profile] fh_weather is reporting. Yes, I'm modding the weather. Admin privilege.]

"I don't think so," Willow said. "Though I've met a lot of people since I got here. Maybe I forgot? In which case I'm really sorry. You seem like a nice and memorable person."

Paige shook her head and smiled slightly, "no we've not met since you got here, sorry, I um...there was a different you here." she paused, "and now I'm really hoping the wierdness of this place has been explained to you or I'm going to sound completely insane, which I'm not, really!"

"And thanks, I'm Paige Matthews," she said, finally remembering that introducing herself would be a good idea.

"Oh God," Willow said, looking worried. "She wasn't paler and wearing a corset was she? Because that is so not me."

Paige shakes her head, "nope no corsets, more um...well what you're wearing actually. You're a witch right?" she said quietly just in case Willow didn't want people to know.

"Only a little!" Willow said, just in case that was a problem. "Or - or not. Why?"

Paige smiled a little, "The other you was as well, that why were were friends, I'd only just found out I was a witch and you-she offered to help me learn magic." she explained.

"You're a witch too?" Willow asked, excited. She then remembered about the secrecy thing. "I mean... or just very interested in the topic. You know, academically and purely in the realm of theory."

Paige grinned and nodded, "that's right and don't worry pretty much everyone knows about it, I'm gonna have to hide it enough back home to do it here." she assured her.

"It seems like there's a lot of us here," Willow said. "This is way better than my old school. Here they even teach classes in it!"

Re: Buffet Table

[identity profile] the4thsister.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"I know it almost makes me feel boring!" she joked, "and I took the magic class last semester, it was pretty cool, definitely more fun than maths. In fact I'm not ever sure they teach that here."

"I was trying to be all secret about living on a Hellmouth," Willow said, "but turns out nobody cares. This is much different than home. Though? With the gnomes and demons? Not as different as you'd think."

Re: Buffet Table

[identity profile] the4thsister.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Paige raised an eyebrow, "Hellmouth? What's that cos it really doesn't sound good," she asked.

"Pretty much what it sounds like," Willow said. "Which meant my hometown was a host to demons, vampires, you name it."

Re: Buffet Table

[identity profile] the4thsister.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Paige bit her lip as she thought, it sounded a lot like where she was from. "Are you from San Francisco?" she asked after a moment.

[identity profile] willbedone.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"Sunnydale," Willow said, sounding like she wasn't surprised Paige had assumed she was from California.

Re: Buffet Table

[identity profile] the4thsister.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh okay, maybe it's the whole state then," she replied thoughtfully, "cos we have stuff like that back home, we've ust not had to deal with them yet, I take it you have then?"

Re: Buffet Table

[identity profile] willbedone.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
"A little bit," Willow said. "That's how I got into the witchcraft. Having magic-fu helps when you're helping your friends fight vampirs and demons."

Re: Buffet Table

[identity profile] the4thsister.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Paige nodded slowly, possibly looking looking a little worried, it sounded like Willow had led a life to similar to the one she was yet to lead.

"Yeah I guess so," she said a little blankly, "Must be pretty tough right? You must be a pretty talented witch to deal with all that."

Re: Buffet Table

[identity profile] willbedone.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm still learning," Willow admitted. "I can soul a vampire and do a disinvitation spell okay. And I'm good with a floating pencil. But everything else I'm still ironing out the kinks of. Sometimes it works, othertimes - " she glanced around " - there's unexpected side effects."

Re: Buffet Table

[identity profile] the4thsister.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Paige nodded in understanding, "yeah backfiring spell's are a bitch huh?" she said with a sigh, "especially if you don't really think about what could happen. It's one of the reasons I don't really cast spells alone anymore, although at least I know where I went now, personal gain, big no no!"

Re: Buffet Table

[identity profile] willbedone.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"It is?" Willow said, looking worried. "But what if you've got really good intentions?"

Re: Buffet Table

[identity profile] the4thsister.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Paige bit her lip realising she'd something wrong, "Um it's probably just like that in my world, magic's different everywhere I think, I mean some people have to use wands." she said quickly hoping make her feel better.

"And I'm sure intentions are important, if you're helping someone else as well as your self, it's not really personal gain right?"

Re: Buffet Table

[identity profile] willbedone.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"Okay, good," Willow relaxed. "That's the sort of thing I meant anyway. I mean why be witchy if you can't help people?"

Re: Buffet Table

[identity profile] the4thsister.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Paige nodded a little over eagerly, "exactly, it's the good thing about it, well that and never being late for class, although that's probably just me, unless you can orb too?" she said forgetting it was one of her whitelighter powers.
