Luau, The Main Campfire, Friday evening

The main campfire had been turned into a tropical paradise... without the tropics. There were leis and grass skirts to wear, tropical music playing, a buffet table, and the infamous Limbo Stick of Destiny, an artifact brought back to America from World War II. Noody knows what happens when a person wins a limbo competition involving the Limbo Stick of Destiny, but several experts on the subject suggest that "absolutely nothing happens except maybe you win a little trophy."

It was party time at the Fandom High Summer Camp.

[OOC: OCD is up. Yes, there is pig, poi, and sometimes the band will switch from generic tropical music to 60's beach movie music, or maybe reggae, or Raffi. They're unpredictable like that.

The luau takes place during a long break in the rain that

Willow snuck up behind him and moved to put her hands over his eyes.

"Do you want to know why I know that's Willow and only Willow, and couldn't possibly be anybody else?" Xander asked a little sadly.

"You could?" she asked. "How?"

Bridge takes this moment to chirp a hello at Willow.

" 'Cause the only other person on this island with eye-covering privileges wears gloves. And... is sitting on my shoulder," Xander explained.

"Good guess then," Willow said. She sat down beside him and peered at the ferret. "Bridge? Hi! What happened? Did you get bit by a gnome?"

Bridge manages... whatever the ferret-y approximation for a shrug is, and makes a confused noise.

"No gnomes." Xander was getting better at telling this ...mostly truthful story. He thought. "We were just out exploring in the woods, and suddenly hi, ferret."

"Huh," Willow said. "Want me to look into ways to change him back?"

"I'm kind of hoping he changes back on his own - Logan Echolls always seemed to, when he turned into a bunny. And how sad is it that there's precedent for this?" Xander shook his head.

"But it couldn't hurt to be looking." He looked a little nervously at Bridge, then at Willow, thinking of... well, Willow. "In a... purely theoretical, researchy sense, right?"

"Purely theoretical researchy sense," Willow agreed. "Who's Logan Echolls?"

"He graduated with me, but he didn't stay for the summer. Nice guy, bit of a jackass sometimes, though. Except when he was a bunny, which was twice."

"Okay," Willow said, "is it just me or does this place beat Sunnydale out on the weirdness factor? Though - I think we're more fatal."

"Well, we do have our own..." Xander phrased it carefully, not actually saying any really short names that began with an A. "Animal transformation issues, back home. But... yeah, day-for-day basis, I'm not sure anyplace is weirder than Fandom."

"Do you like it better or worse?" Willow asked, looking like she had her own thoughts on the subject but she wasn't yet sure about them.

Xander frowned; he didn't quite have an answer for that. He probably wouldn't have frowned quite as much if he'd never thought about it, though.

"I like the less fatalities part." He turned his head and smiled. "And the Bridge part." Then he glanced down at his hands. "I don't really miss Sunnydale, but I miss being part of ...you know. Us. My version of us."

Willow nodded. "I get that. I've met some really nice people here and it's fun and you can't beat a place that has classes in computers and magic. But it's weird, sometimes. Especially since, you know," she gave him a look she hoped conveyed the entire concept of 'I'm redoing my junior year which makes me wonder if sometimes I'm doing it wrong' which she did not say out loud not because of Bridge, but because she didn't know who else might be listening in.

He did know, and... there were probably a few things he could say from experience about the weirdness getting... not less, but better, when you weren't expending half your energy keeping big giant secrets about yourself. But he had the feeling it would fall on deaf ears at this point, so he just said, "Yeah, it's...different. You do get more used to it, though."

"Do you find it hard? With the timelines?" Willow asked. "Because there's things I know that even if I'm allowed to know them I don't know if I know things that other people should know."

"Like Buffy, you mean?" Xander asked immediately, nodding.

"And that should tell you everything you need to know about my ability to comprehend your sentence structure," he added, addressing the ferret on his shoulder.

"You speak ferret now?" Willow asked.

Xander shook his head, grinning. "No, I meant when he's human. I do kind of speak Rat, though, a little. We had a class on animal languages."

Looking a bit more serious, he added, "The time thing is...weird, yeah. But I haven't really been too worried about what I say, I guess. Because okay, this Buffy's a lot younger than u-- uh, I am, and a bunch of stuff hasn't happened to her yet. But she's from a different dimension; who's to say it was ever gonna happen to her?"

"I guess," Willow said, though she looked mopey.

"You don't want to mention stuff about the whole us thing around her?" Xander guessed. "Or... you want to but don't think you should?"

"All of the above," Willow said. "Plus I wonder about her and Angel. You know, the whole 'better to have loved' thing."
