Luau, The Main Campfire, Friday evening

The main campfire had been turned into a tropical paradise... without the tropics. There were leis and grass skirts to wear, tropical music playing, a buffet table, and the infamous Limbo Stick of Destiny, an artifact brought back to America from World War II. Noody knows what happens when a person wins a limbo competition involving the Limbo Stick of Destiny, but several experts on the subject suggest that "absolutely nothing happens except maybe you win a little trophy."

It was party time at the Fandom High Summer Camp.

[OOC: OCD is up. Yes, there is pig, poi, and sometimes the band will switch from generic tropical music to 60's beach movie music, or maybe reggae, or Raffi. They're unpredictable like that.

The luau takes place during a long break in the rain that fh_weather is reporting. Yes, I'm modding the weather. Admin privilege.]

"Funny, that." Parker's smile grows wicked. "You'd almost think he was looking for an excuse to check on it. Except, as he pointed out to me, he doesn't need excuses to do anything. He's Jack."

Cedric leans back, hands behind him and laughs.

"Quite right. Of course, I'm not adverse to a visit or two either. His plant is welcome in my alcove."

Of course, that could be taken badly. Cedric hasn't quite gotten the hang of innuendo yet.

Parker coughs. Then raises her eyebrows at him, eyes sparkling.

"I may have been calling him Jack and the Beanstalk a night or two ago...."

"Why would..." Realization comes quick and it's Cedric's turn to cough. "Ha. Well, yes. My resemble to a beanstalk is distant at best, though."

"I'll be sure and tell him that," Parker said demurely. She can't quite manage innocent. "Jack's resemblance to an adventurer and maybe-reckles-hero is entirely realistic. Maybe even larger-than-life, though."

No, she's not making that kind of comment. Really.

"So I've heard," Cedric says, running a hand through his hair. "But not yet seen."

And he is making that kind of comment. Really.

"So I've heard," Parker says, returning the comment in kind. "Or rather, haven't. Not that Jack kisses and tells. But it's fairly obvious when he has been." She sobered a little. "Also, that I owe you a thanks for being there for him when he needed it a few nights ago."

Parker's smile brightened again, and she nodded. "This is usually the part where I threaten you if you hurt my friend," she said conversationally. "Except I told Jack I wouldn't. And you've already been very cool to him. So, can we take it as read, and skip it, until such time as it *really* seems necessary? I want to save the good threats for those that deserve them."

He quirks an eyebrow at her before breaking into a smile.

"I'm glad to know I don't deserve them. Yet." And, he hoped, never. "I don't plan on hurting anyone here, Parker, if I can help it. Well, unless, they eat my cooking or hear me sing. Then, I might hurt them but it'll be by accident!"

Parker snickered, relaxing a bit. "Get Jack to sing for you sometime. He does a mean Dean Martin impression. Also, if you get him on any Cole Porter? Knee-melting."

"Jack sings?" He looks thoughtful for a moment. "Man of many talents."

"Especially when drunk." Parker cocked her head. "Of course, some of his other talents are improved by *lack* of drink, but even then? Not really compromised."

And yes, that's just as dirty as you think it is.

Parker shrugged one shoulder and smiled. "We had a thing, for about two or three months. Nothing serious. But very very fun while it lasted." She made a face. "I just wish he remembered it now."

"Yeah." Parker looked down at her drink. "So if I seem a little protective-- there is reason, after all. Even if he's trying hard to be okay with it." She cocked her head at Cedric. "So. Backstory on Jack's new buddy? Name, rank, and serial number, Bubba." The smile should let him know she's kidding, mostly.

"You're very blunt," Cedric says but tempers it with another smile. "Cedric Diggory. From England. Previously of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry."

"Hogwarts, Hogwarts... nope, don't know it. The accent's cute, though. And Jack said you do magic?" Parker tilted her head. "Is the plant magic? He was joking about that, but I wasn't sure if he was serious."

"Magic, yes," he says. "And, as far as I know, the plant is just a plant. I bought it at the local store in town after noticing his previous plant wasn't faring too well."

"Disappearing for six weeks will do that." Parker snapped her fingers. "Xander's Willow goes there! I knew it sounded familiar. Rosenberg? Have you met her? She's got a rather testy double wandering around here, too."

Knitting his brow, Cedric tries to remember if he'd met a Rosenberg. He comes up empty.

"I don't believe I met her, no. She might've been in a different house though. Or a different year."

"House?" Parker cocked her head. "Like a dorm? And she'd be American too, so I'd figure you'd have met her, but yeah, I think there might be time issues. Xander's from 2000."

"From what I've learned houses are similar to teams," he says. "Hogwarts has four houses. Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff. When a new student enrolls, they're sorted into the approriate house based on personality and skills."

"So which were you?" Parker cocked her head. "And what would Rita Skeeter be, if you know who she is?" Thinking about it, she raises one eyebrow. "Is Malfoy from your world too? Because I think I half-remember him talking about wizardry, once."
