Luau, The Main Campfire, Friday evening

The main campfire had been turned into a tropical paradise... without the tropics. There were leis and grass skirts to wear, tropical music playing, a buffet table, and the infamous Limbo Stick of Destiny, an artifact brought back to America from World War II. Noody knows what happens when a person wins a limbo competition involving the Limbo Stick of Destiny, but several experts on the subject suggest that "absolutely nothing happens except maybe you win a little trophy."

It was party time at the Fandom High Summer Camp.

[OOC: OCD is up. Yes, there is pig, poi, and sometimes the band will switch from generic tropical music to 60's beach movie music, or maybe reggae, or Raffi. They're unpredictable like that.

The luau takes place during a long break in the rain that [livejournal.com profile] fh_weather is reporting. Yes, I'm modding the weather. Admin privilege.]

"From what I've learned houses are similar to teams," he says. "Hogwarts has four houses. Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff. When a new student enrolls, they're sorted into the approriate house based on personality and skills."

"So which were you?" Parker cocked her head. "And what would Rita Skeeter be, if you know who she is?" Thinking about it, she raises one eyebrow. "Is Malfoy from your world too? Because I think I half-remember him talking about wizardry, once."

"I was a Hufflepuff," he says. "Rita Skeeter would probably be a Slytherin." Of course, that might just be his bitterness talking. "And yes, Draco Malfoy is from my world. He's a Slytherin as well. I was quite surprised to see him here."

"Okay, that doesn't make me love Slytherins. He's a superior snot, the one or two times I talked to him." And she's not forgetting that he was in with Angelus, either. "Hufflepuff?" She grinned. "Who named you guys?"

[ooc: and I go away to work, wah. talk to you later!]

"The house of Hufflepuff is named after Helga Hufflepuff," he says. "Hufflepuffs are known for being just, loyal, true and patient. So, not so bad."

Parker grinned. "Are they know for cuteness? 'Cause they should be." She raised an eyebrow. "And what are Slytherins known for?"

Cedric grins and looks down at the ground. "Slytherins are known for being very cunning and using any means to achieve what they want."

"Soooo... could be bad. Could be good." Parker made a so-so gesture with the hand not holding her drink. "I'd probably get slotted into Slytherin, come to think of it."

"The Slytherin garner bad reputations at times," Cedric admits. "Not all of them deserve said repuation."

"Think that people start to resemble who they're slotted in with?" Parker asked, then grinned. "Stickbugs and Meerkats. Seahorses and.... Koalas, or Squirrels?"

"Possibility," he admits. "Hogwarts had a very specific way of sorting. The person sorted had qualities of their house before even knowing what house they were going to be sorted into. The sorting hat has the ability to discern personality traits."

"So it might reinforce it, being around people like yourself all the time." Parker cocked her head. "So you became even more loyal, patient, and true? There are worse systems, I suppose. Here, I guess it would be by floor. With 'loud' being the singular trait of second."

He shrugs and says, "Sorting hat isn't usually wrong. I like to think of myself as loyal, patient and true. Being here though might add new skills. Adaptability being the main one."

"Oh yeah. Around here? You either adapt or run within about two or three weeks. I think you've passed that, at this point." Parker grinned. "Also, appreciation for boykissy and endurance of public embarassment are probably on that list too."

"Yes, the kissing of boys seems to be a highly valued skill here. Very unlike England," he says.

"Which is ironic, given that I think Jaye started shouting that when we visited England in the spring." Parker grinned. "But hey. It's not like girlkissy doesn't get some equal time, from what I've heard."
