Worrisomely, the park was empty today aside from a sign that directed everyone to the beach. When they arrived, they would find a huge wooden scaffolding at least 30 feet high (somewhere, an Olypmic platform diving squad was wondering where their stuff had gone) next to the water. In the water was a blue and gold inflatable as long as the scaffolding was high. Further out were ropes marking distance from the inflatable blob.

Everyone have a horrifying mental image of what was going to happen here? Good!

"I have returned after foraging for parts last week," Anakin lied through the megaphone. He'd been a cat. "And we are trying out an all new event! You will climb to the top of the scaffolding and jump down onto the inflatable! This will launch the person at the other end of it into the air! Whoever launches someone the furthest wins! The launchee will also receive points for style before hitting the water."

The points get you nothing. You win nothing. "After you have launched your island mate, you crawl to the launch zone and you get launched by the person behind you. This will be fun."

Possibly only for spectators.

"Come get your rash guards and life jackets, if necessary. Listen for your names!"

Had Flint been watching the proceedings with the assessing look of a man who was wondering how to utilize this against mutiny? Perhaps.

Now he called down to Lydia from his perch. "Are you ready?"

"Do I look ready?"

She was wearing her life jacket, at least.

"No," Flint said honestly after a quick appraisal. "It is good to face your fate anyway."

"Let's just get it over with."

Such enthusiasm, Lydia!

"That's the spirit," Flint said, dropping onto the inflatable. Farewell, Lydia!

Lydia's shriek as she flew through the air probably sounded considerably less delighted than some other people's, let's put it that way.

And then the splash.

Flint watched to make sure her head popped up.

It did! Thanks to the life jacket and nothing else, lbr, and then she just sort of floundered about trying not to scream, 'SHUT UP!' at the sea out loud.

"Stay there and I'll tow you back to shore!" Flint bellowed.

"Fear not, sir!" Lydia called back, then spat out a mouthful of salt water. The last thing she needed was to become intoxicated right now, thank you very much. "I don't see myself going anywhere anytime soon!" Unless a wave was so kind as to push her back toward the shore.

Flint, after launching, swam out towards her (his own air time hadn't been quite as robust). "Still all right?"

"....as well as can be expected." So not very.

Flint laughed. "Duly noted. Point yourself towards land and start kicking. I'll push you along."
