Fandom Library, Wednesday, July 2nd

There was a weird beach tableau happening in the library today. Books - beach reads, obviously - were lounging around, while Beach Boys played from some portable speakers. Some books rested on towels, some wear floaties around their covers, a few are clustered around a couple of different coolers. Arden had no idea of what could even be in those coolers. What snacks and beverages would books even bring to the beach?

Not curious enough to actually tread into their space, mind.

At least not until she saw a pair of books with a bottle of suntan lotion between them, the paper cover pulled slightly askew. "Okay, absolutely not!" she called. "We do not put lotion onto the books!"

Sometimes, Cal felt guilty for dressing in a way he knew Arden would like, because it felt like manipulation. But the warm weather made him feel less like he was being inappropriate, and the beach setting got rid of any last anxiety.

"Did you set this up to encourage outdoor reading or was the place just like this today?" he asked. BD-1 hopped off of his shoulder and immediately went to the speakers to judge the tech hookups like a nerd.

"Hi," Cal said warmly, kissing her back happily. "You can take credit, I won't tell anyone. Isn't beach reading a thing? Like, if you go on vacation you get to read bad books?"

Gray slumped his way into the library and wordlessly slid a flier across the desk to Arden.

And then looked confused at the book beach party.

"I mean, it obviously needs more waffles," there was a whole day dedicated to waffles, "but Ray seems happy about it. Honestly, I'm just surprised he hasn't bankrupted us yet running one restaurant." Castor truly worked miracles on the stock exchange.

"He also told me to ask you who hurt you with blueberries in their potato salad." He just wanted a word with them.

Gray lived his life like every day should be waffle day.

And he considered this information and, after a lengthy pause, asked the only question he could think of: "Who hurt them?"

Other people were wrong.

"Are we sure they were human? Maybe there was something wrong with their taste buds." Something very, very wrong.

"But the blueberries."

Hey, you know where blueberries did belong? Waffles, that's where. Case closed, waffles win.

Which was worse, being tormented by "angels" by night, or potato salad with blueberries and Miracle Whip by day?

...honestly, tough call.

"I'm a little scared that if I tell Raiden someone actually did that, he'll try it," Gray confessed. "And then he might cry. I don't want to make Raiden cry!"
