Good morning, everyone! The sun was shining, the weather was getting pleasantly warm and Anakin had set himself up in the park with a bullhorn and a bunch of giant plastic storage containers full of liquids. Ice water, orange soda, chocolate pudding, the leftover slime...

Surely this will end well for everybody!

"Today you will participate in the ten toes challenge!" Anakin announced. "Working in teams, you will lay on your backs and balance these containers on your socked feet. Then, going in a circle, you must each take off one sock, then the other, without tipping the liquid onto yourselves. It's about teamwork!"

And gravity. And Anakin's personal amusement.

"Come down when I call your name and get your team socks!" He grinned. "Oh, and no powers, please. That takes away the fun."

The fun for the audience.

Vi grinned and fluttered her lashes at Steph. "I'm sure you'll rescue me like always."

"No you weren't," she replied, just so happening to stretch her neck as she did so, displaying her tattoo to best effect.

"Mean," Steph grumbled, staring at said tattoo. "See if I rescue you now."

"Are you saying you'd leave me in Saffron's clutches?" Vi asked, adding in big, sad eyes to the neck stretching.

Oh, no.

"I'm saying you're perfectly capable of rescuing yourself," Steph argued, somewhat less convincingly. "I have faith in you! Isn't that good?"

OF course Vi could rescue herself from Saffron, that wasn't the point.

Vi just made her big, sad eyes even bigger and sadder.

"You would turn the big sad eyes on me?" Steph asked, putting a hand to her chest as if mortally wounded. "On me?"

See if she didn't sad-puppy-eyes right back at you, Vi.

"I would," Vi said, sounding incredibly hurt that Steph would attempt to give her a taste of her own medicine.

"I am shocked," Steph said dramatically, not letting up with her own big sad eyes at all. "Clearly the idea of me not rescuing you from our cat has you all out of sorts, and that won't do, will it?"

"I’m inconsolable," Vi informed Steph. Very, very seriously.

"That is unacceptable," Steph replied just as seriously. "Completely and totally unacceptable. I guess I'll just have to promise to rescue you like I was always planning to do anyway, huh?"

God, she was such a pushover where Vi was concerned.

"Really?" The puppy eyes vanished in an instant as Vi fluttered her lashes at Steph. "However will I repay you?"

"You'll think of something," Steph said, reaching over to pat her arm as she shook her head in amusement. "Surprise me."

Vi grinned and reached for her hand. "I will," she promised her.

Steph let Vi have her hand, only to squeeze it and pull it up to her mouth for a kiss.

"Looking forward to it, after this clownery is done."

She said, like they didn't keep letting themselves get dragged into it over and over.

Vi couldn't help it, she was possessed of the urge to show off for her girl. "I'm sure we'll figure out something to do with ourselves."

Despite the fact that more often than not, there was no dignity in the showing off that happened here.

"From previous experience, a shower will definitely be in our near future, for starters," Steph decided.

"I like the sound of that." Though she was picturing a much sexier shower than they would be having.

"The more you can avoid getting hit by whatever liquid hell is in those containers, the nicer it'll actually be," Steph said with a laugh, squeezing Vi's hand again. "Then we order in something nice for dinner maybe?"

Thanks for nothing, Remy.

"And have something really nice for dessert."

Steph would not be faring any better in that regard, for whatever consolation that might be.

"Always," she replied, waggling her eyebrows. "No lying in the grass holding hands for us this time, huh?"

Everyone else was grateful though, Steph.

Cara most of all. Hand holding. How sickening.

Vi let out a heavy sigh. "Guess we'll just have to make up for it later."

No, Cara, they would not just get a room, thank you very much. Sorry not sorry.

"Don't we always?" Steph kissed the back of her hand again as if in consolation.

Yes, Steph, you'd been using that as an excuse for literal years now.

And they still hadn't made all that time up. Truly, it was hard being them.

"One day we'll catch up."

Lies.

It was inexpressibly difficult being them.

"I mean, I'm not in any hurry," Steph drawled, running her thumb over Vi's knuckles.

Because it was so hard being them that it was exhausting, see.

They just put so much work into it, it was a wonder they weren't dead on their feet.

"I was definitely planning on taking my time," Vi said, pulling their hands towards her mouth to kiss Steph's thumb.
