Morality of Action, Wednesday Afternoon

Well, another Wednesday, another class with a cat lurking... at the front door? Not inside, apparently?

The guy with the white hair and the absolutely ridiculous grin on his face inside was definitely not Kreia. "Hey, what's up?" Dante said cheerfully, practically bouncing on the heels of his feet in the Danger Shop. Around him was a truly beatific landscape of forests and hills. "You know, this has got to be the first time in-- oh man, a long f--"

A loud flock of ducks flew past overhead.

"--ing time that I've been moose-napped. I didn't even know I could be moose-napped. Kathy's going to have a coronary."

He looked at the class. "I'm Dante," he added. "I literally just got airdropped in here so I have no clue, but apparently there's a princess being held in that castle," he jabbed his thumb behind him, "You can pick flying, laserbeams-from-your-eyes and invisibility from the big stack of weirdo power clothes over there--" he pointed at the table, "--and what you do with that is up to you." He squinted towards the door. "Feels like something someone felt would be a life lesson or something," he said, "But it just sounds like good cardio to me. Knock yourself out. Let me know if you learned anything at the end of the class, I guess."

He was not built to be a teacher.

Is this just going to keep happening?

Fake wings, laser eye goggles, invisibility cloak. Which one is it going to be?

Liliana was going to take the invisibility cloak. What she was going to do with it was still uncertain, but of the options, she was going for invisibility.

Yeah, while Professor Vess was gonna go all murder-happy or whatever, Arden was just going to take those wings and spend the entire class flying. Because why wouldn't she?

Fight some passing... uh, mushroom men as they dash towards you over a hilltop here and there?

A patch of invisible air laughed. The first rush of mushroom creatures died. And then they lumbered back up to their feet and began to stagger towards the rest, before falling on them and attempting to rend them.

This was fun!

It's a small medieval village, with many poor people on the streets, a little market, and mean-looking medieval guards. In a corner, you can see them trying to arrest some small children over some... bread?

Yeah, so maybe Kreia hadn't finished this sim yet by the time someone got dropped into it...

It was important to know that Liliana wasn't doing this because she cared about the plight of children. She was doing this because she did not care for men in authority throwing their weight around.

A patch of air passed by. Several of the guards looked around like they'd then touched by something.

And then they began to scream as the putrefaction set in.

Five layers of guards, clumsy brickwork, some very conveniently placed ledges and hooks along the side. How are you going to get up there?

Liliana was going to do what she always did when she wanted to be somewhere and there were people in her way. She was going to remove them.

Was that really necessary? Especially since she was invisible? No.

But it was fun.

She simply went through every single individual kill spell she could think of, watching as the guards got nervous as they dropped dead, one by one, down the line. She ran out of guards before she ran out of death spells. Hmm. Could she order more?

"Oh no," says the princess, the moment she spots you coming in. "You don't understand. I had to escape from this tower myself, to win the respect of my people!"

Yeah, Dante really did a speedrun on Kreia's point, here.

"Oh, do as you please," Liliana said, shrugging off her invisibility cloak. "I don't particularly care so...have fun with that. I don't suppose you know where there are any more guards? I'm partway through an exercise and I want to see how much further I can go."

Come on, tell Dante. He's hanging out by the foot at the tower, chowing down on what looks suspiciously like a slice of pizza.

She was going to laugh even harder in a second.

"I learned something, though I doubt it was the correct lesson," Liliana announced, exiting the tower.

"Yeah?" Dante called. "What was it?"

"That I'm roughly twelve spells away from a new personal goal," Liliana said brightly.

Of knowing a hundred and fifty individual death spells!

Dante looked over at the dead guards on the street.

"Those spells look kinda ugly," he commented.

She looked at the dead guards. "Entirely different set of spells, darling."

Those gave deathtouch. She was talking about spells that destroyed individual creatures.

"Yeah? What's the difference?" Dante asked, sagging further against the wall he was currently parked against.

"Delivery," Liliana said. "Deathtouch is just that." She held up a hand, her fingertips and nails turning black, like they were covered in some strange ichor. "I touch something, it dies. A death spell requires no actual contact; I simply cast it and the target creature dies. Those spells are, however, generally more expensive and might have additional restrictions on who and what I can target with them. Then there are my area of effect death spells, but I was only counting the spells that targeted individuals."

"You know," Dante said, philosophically, "That sounds like supervillain shit." He looked over at Liliana. "Is that your thing?"

"Supervillainry?" Liliana snorted. "So far, all of the definitions of a supervillain I've been provided entail things that sound dreadfully unappealing, like kidnapping princesses or trying to take over various parts of the world."

Imagine wanting to be responsible for other people. Couldn't be Liliana.

"I truly hate to interrupt what I'm sure will be a fascinating lecture on do-goodery or some wild threat about what I'll find waiting for me should I do whatever thing you disapprove of, but I'm vastly uninterested in either."

Did she expect him to splutter or something? Because Dante's head dropped back and he let out a laugh. "Fuck, you should tell my girlfriend you told me that," he said, "She's going to fucking lose it. Me, lecturing."

Kathy would just add that to the list of things she was laughing about today.

"The next time I see her, I'll get right on it," Liliana drawled. He was welcome to sputter or not as he pleased, so long as he didn't try to make her sit through some superhero speech or other.

"Thanks," Dante said merrily. "Anyway, no worries. Lecturing takes too many goddamn words." He pulled away from the wall. "And only insecure people have to make actual threats. The rest of us just go ahead and fuck up someone's day when we have to."

He threw Liliana a jaunty salute. "I'm gonna see what they have for snacks around here. Cheers."

He's just chilling at the front in the sun for most of the class.

Am I just going to keep going until I run out of expats? Who knows.
