Baking Workshop 5/22, FH Home Ec Classroom, Monday Morning

Piper smiles at the students as they show up at the home ec classroom after handwave hearing some sort of announcement letting them know to meet here.

"I'm Piper in case some of you might not know," she says somewhat cheerfully, handing each student a syllabus.

She points out the plate of brownies on the counter in front of her. "I made these for you because that is what we will be baking today. Try one if you'd like. I'm told I make the best brownies ever." She smiles proudly. "We will not be making the kind I brought in, though. They have a secret ingredient and, if I told you what it is, I'd have to vanquish you and no one wants that."

Piper grins to let them know she isn't serious about the vanquishing. She hands each student a list of ingredients and instructions. "I'm not going to lecture you because this workshop is supposed to be fun. So we're gonna get started right away. These instructions are, hopefully, easy to follow. If any of you have questions, please don't hesitate to ask."

"Yeah I do." She said quietly. "But I get to talk to her on the phone so...it makes me just miss her more I think." Maia said with a sad laugh. Swallowing she stood up and turned her Jude, her eyes a little shiny. "So you want to try my brownies when their done?" She asked in an attempt to lighten the mood again.

Jude let the shiny eyes go and favoured her with a grin. "Sure, bra. As long as you try mine, too."

"Of course." Maia said returning his smile.

"Awesome." Jude beamed, and almost knocked the vanilla over with his elbow. He handed the bottle to her. "Here. You hold onto this before it ends up all over me."

Maia laughed and put it up into the cabinet. "There. Now you can't touch it." She said with a nod.

"Thanks, bra," Jude said, continuing to clean up and eyeing the cabinet warily. "It's gonna jump out at me. I just know it."

"I'll catch it before it does." Maia said with a nod. "I've got good reflexes." She said with an assuring nod. "You think they are done?" Maia said taking a paper towel and wiping her portion of the flour up. It sure was fun to sprinkle but damn cleaning it up was a pain.

"Not quite, bra," Jude replied, checking the timer on the oven as he threw out his eggshells and checked his tuque again, which was now nice and toasty from sitting by the oven. It was dry, so he was grinning as he pulled it on.

Maia stuck her face as close to the oven door as she could without burning her nose, "It still looks a little wet." She said watching it with wide eyes. "Do you think I put to much flour in the pan?" Maia said seeing the flour reaching even to the top of the pan where no batter was.

Jude leaned over her shoulder to have a look for himself. "Nah, bra, seems okay to me." He gave her a mellow smile as he stood back. "But then again it isn't on a stick so I don't know how much of an expert I am."

Re: Bake

[identity profile] maias-notebook.livejournal.com 2006-05-22 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Maia smiled at him over her shoulder and waited for the timer to go off.

Re: Bake

Jude amused himself while waiting for the timer by flicking pecan pieces into the air and catching them in his mouth. He was actually pretty good, with only one missing its mark and bouncing off the bridge of his nose.

"These take to long." Maia said in a slight huff after about two minutes. She looked amused at Jude tossing up pecan pieces and caught the one that bounced off his nose. "Drop this?" She said with a wink before tossing it up for him to catch if he wanted to.

Re: Bake

[identity profile] dude-its-jude.livejournal.com 2006-05-22 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Jude grinned and caught it, involving crouching and weaving back and forth a bit. But he caught it anyways and crunched happily, striking a muscleman pose.

Re: Bake

Maia gave him a handclap and laughed. She liked Jude, he was fun and didn't seem to get bothered by anything. He was refreshing to say the least.

Re: Bake

And after half an hour of entertaining Maia, the brownies were ready. Jude pulled out his pan, twirled a toothpick around his finger dramatically and stabbed it into the brownies.

"Ready!" he announced, pulling it out clean. He popped the toothpick into his mouth and chewed on it, a la Clint Eastwood Ron the Rent-a-cop, impression in place. "Go on, try my brownies. Make my day, punk."

[identity profile] maias-notebook.livejournal.com 2006-05-22 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Maia blinked at him and wasn't sure who he was imitating so she squinted her eyes and said "Ok punk. I will." She didn't have a toothpick but she thought she nailed the voice pretty well.

Taking a bite of one of Jude's brownies she grinned. "I like it. Try one of mine." She said, the brownies Maia made were significantly flatter then Jude's and encrusted with flour on the bottom but still they were edible.

[identity profile] dude-its-jude.livejournal.com 2006-05-22 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Jude tried one of hers. It was pretty good. He'd had a lot worse, so his smile was genuine as he gave her a thumbs-up around a mouthful of chocolately goodness. "Awesome, bra," he mumbled.

Maia grinned at him, she was well on her way to the perfect bunt cake. "Great. Thanks for cooking with me Jude. I'm going to take the rest of these to Piper so she can see them." Maia said as she finished carefully cutting them into squaress and setting them nicely onto a plate.

"Good luck, bra," he said, giving her a thumbs up as he cut up his own. "I hope no one minds if I save some for Setsuna . . ."
