Fandom High Graduation Ceremony Class of 2006 - Monday night

[OOC: This post is open for slow-play. Take your time and please remember that this is all about the seniors!]

As the sun disappeared below the horizon on Monday evening, large, bright lights came on, illuminating the front lawn of Fandom High. There was a stage area with several chairs for the administration and special guests, as well as a podium and microphone. On the grass in front of the stage are rows and rows of chairs for parents, guardians, siblings and friends of the graduating seniors, as well as enough chairs for any faculty, townies and students who decide to attend. There is an aisle free down the middle and reserved seats in the front row for the graduating seniors.

All in all, the place looks fantastic decked out in blue and gold thanks to the efforts of the freshmen on the graduation committee.

Oh yes. Then there's the inflatable gremlin filled with helium off to the side that's the size of the building. It looks kind of cute, actually, just floating there while tied to the ground.

Keith sighed and leaned forward to tap the odd looking person on the shoulder. "Excuse me. Would you mind moving over a seat?"

G'Kar turned, leather creaking and still beaming. Of course, when one has red eyes and a reptilian face, it isn't as cheerful as it usually is.

"Oh! Of course, of course! So sorry!" G'Kar hopped over a seat. "Do forgive me. I've never been to one of these graduation ceremonies, you see."

Keith's expression of cheerful politeness remained emphatically in place. "Quite alright. Do you have a kid graduating today?"

"In a manner of speaking," G'Kar replied, waving a hand rather vaguely. "Her papers say I am her guardian and I think she's regretting it at the moment. My good friend Mr. Garibaldi would be here but he made the mistake of teaching me the wonderful human concept of "dibs"." G'Kar looked almost gleeful. "Ah, yes. Susan Ivanova would be my, ah, "kid". And I am G'Kar."

Keith offered his hand. He remembered just enough about the weirdness of this town to just take G'Kar's appearance in stride. "Keith Mars. Pleasure to meet you."

G'Kar shook the offered hand enthusiastically. "The pleasure is mine, Mr. Mars. Your child is also graduating, yes? Then I offer my congratulations!"

"That she is. And congratulations to you, too."

That elicited more beaming. G'Kar? Really had to get out more. He leaned in a bit, curious. "Tell me, Mr. Mars, what is involved in this ceremony?" If there were some sort of ritual battle he felt that he should be informed.

"Well, generally speaking, there's usually a lot of talking, and eventually the kids get to walk across the stage and get their diploma, and then we all take lots of pictures and clap. That's about it."

"Oh." G'Kar looked momentarily deflated, then perked up again. "What's a diploma?"

Where was this guy from? Seriously.

Keith Mars was nothing if not polite to a fault (even if it was occasionally a sarcastic polite), so he kept smiling. "A piece of paper indicating to everyone that they've satisfactorily completed their studies." He raised his hand slightly. "Oh, it might not sound like much, but you'd be amazed by the places that won't let you in without one."

He was learning so much! He nodded quickly. "Ah, yes, I see, I see. We have something similar on my home planet of Narn."

Home planet. Of course.

"Oh yeah? What's that?"
