"Since the pits were such a hit last week," Steve began with perhaps an unclear recollection of last week, "we're keeping them and adding additional obstacles this week."

"Land mines," Tony said cheerfully. "Well, paint ones. Expect to get pretty messy if one goes off, though."

Was this cruel and unusual? No, because there weren't any bugs.

Or any niche Chicago booze flavored like bugs and regret. So it could be a lot worse, right, Anakin?

"So just like in a real battle, you have to look out for more than just enemy combatants," Steve said, nodding. "Be on your toes. Not literally."

"Maybe a little literally depending on the area," Tony chimed in.

"It'll be swell," Steve assured them. "Have fun. No power usage."

You know you need the protection.

As she was pulling on her jumpsuit, Summer was already eying the landscape suspiciously for signs of mines. She knew that, with the way these things went, thr likelihood of taking two victories in a row were pretty slim to none, but, fuck, that'd be pretty great if she pulled it off, huh?

She had to make sure the idea of it didn't leave her making dumb mistakes, though.

Arden had pulled her hair back into braids to hopefully mitigate the odds she'd end up with paint in her hair.

Look, she lived on hope, okay?

"Ready to have dinner brought to you two weeks in a row?" Kamala asked handing over a Red Squishy to Arden as part of what is now a pre-game ritual.

A very important pre-game ritual, in fact. "Yep," Arden said, hopped up on smugness and hubris. "Thanks for the idea of the onion blossom, by the way. It was delicious. Any ideas where I should make him take me next?"

Oh, the drama.

The landmines were definitely going to put a damper on Summer's usual strategy of just dashing between hiding spots, so she was considering taking out a pit and sniping from there.

And that's when she discovered a mine in a pit.

"Are you absolutely fucking kidding me right now??"

All of Cal's experience with guns had taken place in this class. Mines, on the other hand, he knew very well. He couldn't exactly turn off the Force, so he could sense when he got close to a mine, but not using powers meant not telling anyone else where they were. Oh well!

Oh who would he have told anyway?

Not everybody had the Force, but some people made up for it with sheer ingenuity. Like grabbing a long branch and using it to carefully poke around at spots before stepping on them, while remaining mostly low to the ground to avoid getting easily spotted and sniped.

He might have said something when there were more people on the field, but the numbers had dwindled, and Cal was hoping the sound of a mine would let him know where Arden was. He had, as usual, taken a high spot, and was searching for any sign of movement.
