Summer Shenanigans, Wednesday, May 29, 2024

Was anyone looking slightly worried about the pantry ingredients and refrigerated chests Anakin had hauled out the park? Good. You should be worried. There were also three cooking stations set up, and three stacks of terrible, eye-searing shirts in front of Anakin.

Someone stop him from watching food competitions shows into the early hours, gang. "Today will be a cook off!" he announced far-too-loudly through the megaphone. "As always you will work in teams. Your teams will be divided into pairs and as that pair you will work on an appetizer, then tag in the next pair to complete a main dish, and finally your third team pair will make a dessert!"

That seemed too easy.

"You will be bound together like a three-legged race."

There we go.

"And while the food supplies are overwhelming in the choices available to you, the only equipment you have will be what you would find in a typical college freshman's dorm, or in the home of a recently divorced man. Listen for your names! Don't use your powers!"

"I certainly wouldn't take off my dress to put it on," Lydia agreed, even if some of the gentlemen removing their shirts was...not objectionable. "But look at it!" She shook the shirt delicately at Kamala. It continued to just be some shrimp.

Look, the men taking off shirts weren't bad at all. Sometimes shrimp is the price you pay!

"Maybe you should make an extra mess on it so you can show everyone how much you don't like it?" Kamala suggested. "And then it will cover up the shrimp."

"I'm afraid that's going to happen anyway," Lydia admitted. "I'm not much in the kitchen," which was, if anything, an understatement, "and these modern gadgets are so confusing."

"Oh! I can walk you through how to use them!" Kamala offered. "The microwave and the grill thing are super easy."

"That's terribly kind of you," Lydia said. "You don't think it would be a problem, with us being on different teams?" Rude of Dean Skywalker, really.

There must be a little Sith still in him to be doing this to everyone.

"Hey, you could get burned on a couple of those things," Kamala said, justifying everything. "Safety is paramount."

She pointed at the microwave. "The microwave is easy. Open the door and put the food in on a plate or bowl inside. Punch the 30 second button until you get the time you want and hit the start button. Most foods only take 1-2 minutes to fully cook in there. Oh! Safety tip: Nothing metal in the microwave."

Then she pointed at the Foreman grill. "That one is pretty easy too. Just turn it on with that switch and wait for it to heat up. Open the lid and throw the food in and close it and wait about 3-5 minutes for it to be cooked. Just don't touch the metal parts."
