Shop Class 5/01

"Good morning kids and welcome to your final exam," Mac says sadly. "Before we get started I just wanted to say that you kids were great this semester. You make it easy and enjoyable to be a teacher."

Mac pulls out his remote and fiddles with it a bit and the class room rearranges itself so that there are multiple walk-in safes for everyone to use.

"Your exam today is that you will be tied up and placed in a safe which you will need to break out of. The safes are currently under construction so inside you will find various cleaning solutions and a toolbox. Nothing in the toolbox alone will get you out of the safe, but a combination of tools or chemicals should help you find a way out. If you want you can team up with someone or go it alone. ~~Or even handwave it~~."

"Finally I'd like to say this is my final class here at Fandom High. I've had a blast teaching everyone and I wish you luck in the years to come."

"Yeah, we had to do that too. I ended up using my shirt for a filter and smelling like Jake-bait for the rest of the day."

Xander eyes the bottle Bridge is holding. "Assuming that doesn't eat through your hands before it eats through the lock? I'd say we're golden." He scratches his head. "Well, maybe silver; Mac did say none of the chemicals or tools would get us out on their own."

"Well, at least the gloves offer an extra layer of protection," Bridge says. "And... okay, yeah, but if we can at least get this to eat through part of the door, we can get to the lock, maybe?"

"Point." Xander would offer to do the chemical pouring? But there was a point about the gloves too.

He does manage to locate a metal funnel among the bottles, though, and holds it up. "Might eat this before it eats the door, but eh. Better than dumping it directly onto our shoes...."

Bridge takes the funnel and starts pouring. Remarkably, none of it ends up on *him*, and a minute or so later they're left with a corroded funnel and a slightly-smoking safe door.

Xander studies the lock.

Then returns to the toolbox, and comes back with a screwdriver, and a hammer.

He holds them up, in that order. "Subtlety or violence? Got a preference?"

"Hmmm. Difficult question. Definitely a fan of subtle, but violence has it's uses." A fan of subtle, maybe, but not always the best at employing it, 'cause the next thing he says is, "you know, we never did try the kissing solution."

Xander raises an eyebrow, then laughs. "How about we try the tools first, just in case? 'Cause it'd be really weird to have Mac grading me on my kissing skills."

He takes both implements over to the lock, and, placing the screwdriver at the base of the lock-plate, positions the hammer above it, says, "Eh, compromise. Subtle violence."

BAM. Hammerhead to the screwdriver handle, screwdriver blade to the lock-plate, lock... Nah, still just sitting there mocking them. Though now with a screwdriver sticking out of it.

"Hmm. Doesn't seem to be working."

"I'm shocked." Xander looks suspiciously around the holographic room, then shrugs. "Non-subtle non-violence ho, I guess."

"Hey, it's a tried-and-true method of room-escaping. Plus, fun."

"Yuh-huh. What makes me think you had ulterior motives in coming along for this final, I wonder?"

Not that this stops Xander from grinning, or moving toward Bridge.

"Ulterior motives? Me? Never..."

"Pretty sweet deal you've got going there. People think you're all pure and innocent 'cause of the future cop thing... and the part where you never do anything bad... and then whammo."

Xander's not sure what whammo might be, really, but it sounds impressively sneaky and accusatory. And gives him a nice vocal accompaniment to pushing Bridge backwards against the door and kissing him hard.

Any retort Bridge might have had is cut off because, hey, kissing.

Unfortunately, before he really has a chance to do anything like kiss *back*... the door to the safe- the door that he's currently backed up against- falls to the ground with a resounding *THUD*.

Well, whammo could be Xander and Bridge falling after it out onto the floor, still sort of kissing.

It wasn't exactly what he had in mind, but hey.

Mac looks up as the door makes a big clanging noise and rolls his eyes a little. "Took you two long enough."

"Hey, you want speed, or quality?" Xander asks, and then his mouth is occupied again.

Mac doesn't look up from his grade book. "Mr. Harris, there may be a time you might find yourself in a predicament of this nature where time is crucial. I'd also think you might take your final exam more seriously."

Then he looks up to see that ~~probably~~ no one is listening to him anyway.

*sighs*

*goes back to grading*

Were Bridge listening, he probably would have pointed out that the last time they were in this predicament, kissing *had* been the solution. And hey, technically, it had worked this time too...

Were Xander listening, he probably would've... cared what his grade might be.

Really.
