Shop Class 5/01

"Good morning kids and welcome to your final exam," Mac says sadly. "Before we get started I just wanted to say that you kids were great this semester. You make it easy and enjoyable to be a teacher."

Mac pulls out his remote and fiddles with it a bit and the class room rearranges itself so that there are multiple walk-in safes for everyone to use.

"Your exam today is that you will be tied up and placed in a safe which you will need to break out of. The safes are currently under construction so inside you will find various cleaning solutions and a toolbox. Nothing in the toolbox alone will get you out of the safe, but a combination of tools or chemicals should help you find a way out. If you want you can team up with someone or go it alone. ~~Or even handwave it~~."

"Finally I'd like to say this is my final class here at Fandom High. I've had a blast teaching everyone and I wish you luck in the years to come."

When everyone finishes the exam, Mac hands out a gift (http://www.swissarmy.com/images/ProductCatalog/vm_53241_sol_a02.jpg) for each student.

Sam walked up to Mac's desk after everyone had left. She put the extra knife back on the desk. "Thanks, Mac, but I already have three."

"Have a good life, and stay safe, okay?" On any other day, she probably would have hugged him goodbye. Now she wasn't so sure.

Mac looked at Sam, sighed and shook his head. "Sam I know this morning was really weird, but we've been through too much together just to leave things like this."

Sam bit at her bottom lip and spun the Swiss Army knife against the desk. She couldn't make herself look up yet, though. "You're right."

Mac gave her a small smile then walked from behind his desk and put an arm around Sam's shoulders. "I just want you to know that I think you're one of the brightest people I've ever known. It was truly a pleasure to know you."

Sam turned around and hugged him. "You too. Your approach to life, well, you don't see it much," she smiled slightly, "and that's too bad. There's too much violence and not enough creative thinking in the world."

Mac smiles and returned the hug. "If there's only one person I could have passed that lesson down to, I'm glad it was you."

And the hug continued.

Oddly enough, it didn't feel strange.

And...they were still hugging. Hmmm.

Sam didn't have the heart to tell Mac she'd known that lesson already. "You taught it to a lot of people. It was a good lesson to pass on."

Finally, she let go of him.

Mac looked at Sam for what seemed like a few minutes.

"Oh. What the hell."

He leaned in and kissed her.

In her complete and utter shock, Sam thought Mac, then remembered he was her teacher. So she kissed him back.

When it was all done and said with Mac gave Sam a small smile as he threw his backpack over his shoulder.

"When you're... oh say... 20 or so? Look me up sometime."

He gave her another smile and headed for the door.

Sam blinked as she tried to process what had happened. Talk about not leaving it that, "Mac?" She smiled slightly back at him, "Count on it."

Nadia offered Mac a small smile. "You know, no matter where you go, you're never going to find a place more interesting than this."

"That's a statement I can't argue with," Mac said with a chuckle. "I did have one further present for you Santos. I hope you enjoy it (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0394823370/sr=8-1/qid=1146504420/ref=pd_bbs_1/103-0495270-4176633?%5Fencoding=UTF8)"

Nadia took the book with a small smirk.

"Does this mean there won't be any shop classes next year? Because I really liked this class, even when we were getting attacked by robots."

Mac looked around the classroom wistfully. "I hope so. The school invested a lot into the equipment here, I'd hate to see it go to waste. I guess you'll find out soon enough."

He gave Nadia a pat on the shoulder.

"Promise me that if there is shop class and you take it that you'll hassle him as much as you did me?"

Nadia gave a faux long suffering sigh. "I'll try."

Then she leaned in to give Mac a hug and a pat on the back . . . and in the process duct tape the sign she'd made saying "Composed entirely of duct tape and paper clips! Ask me how!" to his back.

As you do.

"Take care of yourself Santos," Mac said returning the hug and not noticing the sign. "Don't make me come back here to throw your butt in detention."

"I'll have you know, I've never had detention for something I actually did," Nadia said with a grin. "Take care of yourself, sir."

No longer entirely high off of cleaning fumes, Stark still grinned crookedly at Mac as he took the SAK.

"Thank you. For this. And the class. The class was...interesting. Very interesting. And fun? Yes. Fun. Thank you."

"Thanks Mac, it's been a blast."
