Library, 4/27

[chasingangela]

A surly teenage boy is behind the counter, attempting to hide his face in a back issue of Rolling Stone.

He is very much hoping today will be the quietest day in library history, but the library is open and full of books anyhow. A new handwritten sign on the library door reads, END OF SEMESTER -- ALL BOOKS DUE MAY 5. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Veronica hit the library after her conversation with Angel.

"Angela?" she said carefully, walking up to the desk.

"Yep," he said. "So I hear this is your fault."

"I am so, so sorry," Veronica said, leaning on the counter. "It wasn't supposed to hit you, too. I was just trying to get back at Marty."

"Figured as much," Angela said. He shrugged. "I'll forgive you, if this stuff really does wear off in 24 hours."

"It did both times for Nadia and Walter," Veronica pointed out. "And I can't imagine that either of you got a full pill, so you guys should definitely be back to normal tomorrow."

"That's something," Angela said.

He wrinkled his nose. "I already managed to get in a fight. Testosterone sucks."

Angela stared at the floor and mumbled. "Cam Mitchell. He's so damn smug about second floor stuff and he just-" he shook his head. "Seriously, all I know is he got on my nerves and I realized I actually could kick his ass, so I offered to."

He looked glum. "The problem is he took me up on it."

"Oh, Angela, I am so sorry," Veronica said again. "Do you, um, know how to fight at all?"

"Yes!," Angela said, defensively. "Parker taught me."

He didn't mention Parker had taught him ten whole minutes ago. That was beside the point.

"Well, that's good," Veronica said. "I learned a little self defense. Kicking in the knee is a good tactic."

"That might work," Angela said. "I kind of don't want to start kicking, though. I have the stuff that might get hurt now."

He sighed. "Parker says to just kiss him when things get bad. Do you think that would count as cheating? I mean, it's Cam."

Veronica considered that. "Cam is pretty," she said. "I could think of worse people to kiss. And if it's going to keep you from getting your ass kicked? I don't think Marty would have an issue with it."

"He is pretty," Angela admitted. "And it's better than being all covered in bruises, definitely."

He ran a hand through his hair. "He will kill me when he finds out. But whatever."

"Your secret is safe with me," Veronica promised. She lowered her voice. "But you have to tell me if he's a good kisser."

"I really am sorry you got mixed up in this," Veronica apologized again. "But I need to go. I have to prepare questions for my journalism interview this afternoon."
