A surly teenage boy is behind the counter, attempting to hide his face in a back issue of Rolling Stone.

He is very much hoping today will be the quietest day in library history, but the library is open and full of books anyhow. A new handwritten sign on the library door reads, END OF SEMESTER -- ALL BOOKS DUE MAY 5. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Isabel walked in, her note (http://www.dailykos.com/story/2006/4/27/124256/316) from Professor Lyman in her hand. She stopped when she didn't recognize the guy behind the counter.

A little giddy from lunch, Angela simply waved to Isabel. "Hey. It's Angela, I just look kind of different today. What's up?"

"It's a new look. But nothing permanent I hope," Isabel laughed. "What happened? And as for what's up? I'd like to get into Special Collections."

"Nadia Santos was trying to dose Marty with the stuff she used for prom to teach him some kind of a lesson, and I got a little by accident," Angela explained. "We think, anyhow. It should last about 24 hours, which is about as long as I could stand it."

She raised her eyebrow at the Special Collections request. "Shouldn't be a problem. You have a library card, right? And a note?"

"I couldn't imagine. I don't want to imagine." Shaking her head, Isabel leaned against the table. "When this is all done, are you going to indulge in girly stuff for a day or two? Or better yet is Marty going to indulge you since technically this is his fault?"

She nodded, "I have my library card and a note from Professor Lyman requesting that I be allowed in to search for information on a planet called Antar."

"It's better you don't," Angela agreed. "I'm not sure, on the girly stuff. I guess I deserve it? But -- maybe it's the hormones -- right now I'm not really in the mood."

He took the card and the note, read them briefly, and filed the note before emerging from behind the counter. "Come on. I have to unlock it for you."

"When you're back to you? I'll bring you chocolate," she promised.

Following behind her, him? Isabel shook her head. "Thanks, I'm not sure what I'm going to find. But hopefully it'll be something."

"You could give it to Marty now," Angela said. "I think he got a body with PMS."

He lead Isabel to the shelf of books about other worlds, and glanced over the shelves until he saw some volumes about Antar. "There they are. There's an alarm system in here; if it goes out, or the lights go out, run. And if you need help, shout. Got it?"

"I will keep that in mind. I've made it through the semester this far. I wouldn't want to be eaten by the library right at the end." Hesitantly she picked up one of the books, staring at it intently before finally opening it. "Thanks Angela."

"No problem," he said, retreating to the collections desk.
