Library, 4/27

A surly teenage boy is behind the counter, attempting to hide his face in a back issue of Rolling Stone.

He is very much hoping today will be the quietest day in library history, but the library is open and full of books anyhow. A new handwritten sign on the library door reads, END OF SEMESTER -- ALL BOOKS DUE MAY 5. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Angela shook his head. "He kept getting jumped when he would put on mascara in the boy's room. My school was not the most tolerant place on earth."

"Definitely. Here I'm only the -" Angela counted on his fingers "-I think the third girl to be a guy, fourth if you count Jake Gavin."

"Well, he is a guy, and then he's a girl, and then he's a guy again...so, yeah, I guess Jake counts."

"What I don't get is that he switches on purpose, and Nadia did, too," Angela said. "I think one day as a boy is about all I'll be able to manage."
