Library, 4/27

A surly teenage boy is behind the counter, attempting to hide his face in a back issue of Rolling Stone.

He is very much hoping today will be the quietest day in library history, but the library is open and full of books anyhow. A new handwritten sign on the library door reads, END OF SEMESTER -- ALL BOOKS DUE MAY 5. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Elizabeth was really confused by this point. "But Marty's not a girl. Unless there's something she's not telling us and Angela... Angela?"

Angela nodded. "Yup. Apparently this is me as a guy. It's very confusing."

"What the hell happened?" Elizabeth asked.

"So the theory is that Nadia Santos spiked Marty's drink last night and I got a dose by accident," Angela said. "All I know is, I woke up this morning and -- boy."

"Huh. Damn. That sucks," Elizabeth said. "Any idea when it's going to, uh, wear off?"

"If it was Nadia, it's a 24-hour thing," Angela said. "Which is about all I can stand."

He looked down. "It's so weird to have this entirely different body on loan."

"Well, at least it's your own body, or at least, the body you would have if you were a boy," Elizabeth said. "It would have been worse if you were in another guy's body, like if you'd swapped with Marty, right?"

Angela paled at the thought. "You're right, that would be really bizarre. This is just kind of like, me but different."

"See? Bright side, silver lining, whatever you want to call it," Elizabeth nodded firmly.

"I guess," Angela said. "So you've never been a guy, have you?"

Because stranger things had definitely happened at this school.

Elizabeth shook her head. "Thank God, no," she said. "And if I can survive the next year without it happening? I'll be a very happy woman."

"I hope it never happens to me again," Angela said vehemently.

"I honestly don't blame you," Elizabeth nodded. "How did Marty take the news?"

"He was more busy freaking out about being a girl than anything else," Angela said calmly.

"Marty's a girl? Okay, now the girlfriend comment makes a lot more sense," Elizabeth said. "Huh."

"I kind of forgot to say that," Angela apologized. "Yeah. He's a much cuter guy."

"No problem. Lot on your mind, I'm sure," Elizabeth nodded.

"Just a couple things," Angela agreed.
