The Floor is Lava - Thursday, Period One

The Danger Shop looked like a drunken unicorn had gone on a psychedelic rampage. Everything (including the jello) was an almost eye searing rainbow and there was a thick layer of (edible) glitter everywhere, including in the jello.

"It's meant to look like this," Cara lied blandly.

"Exactly," Vi said, ducking. "So really I just did you a favour."

Really, Vi?

"Really, Vi?" Steph asked, entirely unaware that there was any narrative for her to be echoing. "I guess I could just think of it as that sports thing where teams celebrate by pouring coolers of Gatorade over each other, but sparklier."

"I mean, I can help you clean up as well," Vi said, all innocence.

Steph flicked another chunk of jello at her.

"You are terrible," she said fondly.

"Charming, I think you mean charming."

"We're just pronouncing the same word two different ways," Steph informed her.

"Just so long as we're on the same page," Vi said airily.

Steph reached out to give her a high five. "I mean, yeah."

Vi returned the high five, then curled their fingers together. "C'mon, let's actually get out of this lava."

"I think I deserve a celebratory cupcake," Steph said as they picked their way out of the sparkly, squishy doom.

"You do," Vi agreed. "They probably even have rainbow ones."

"They better," Steph replied, and reached over to brush a bit of jello away from the space behind Vi's ear. "Since I've already been on both the Perk and JGoB's asses about having some for the festival."

Vi leaned into the touch slinging an arm around her sticky shoulders "And no one dares mess with my badass girl."

Steph laughed and leaned against her. "You standing behind me cracking your knuckles and looking even more badass probably helps with that."

Steph, she didn't do that as a matter of course. Don't make it sound like that.

She could if Steph wanted her to.

"Oh? Is that something you're into?"

Steph wasn't opposed, really.

"Depends on the situation, but..." Steph grinned at her. "I could be."

Vi grinned back. "I've never been someone's personal goon squad before."

"You just made it sound three hundred percent less attractive," Steph declared.

"How do I make it sound more attractive again?"

Steph made a vague humming noise for a few moments and busied herself with brushing bits of jello off Vi's arms and shirt.

"You know? 'Don't worry, I've got your back' does a surprising amount of work for me, actually."

Did Vi deliberately flex her arms? Of course.

"Well, you don't need to worry, because I definitely have your back."

Did Steph appreciate it? Absolutely.

She nudged Vi with her shoulder. "Who said I was worried? Maybe I just like to hear it."

Vi bumped her back. "Well, I'll keep saying it then."

They were lucky they were well clear of the lava, because Cara was tempted to dump them back in at this display.

Who could blame her, really?

"I mean, I'm definitely not going to stop you," Steph said cheerfully. "Let's go get those cupcakes, and then I could use a shower."

No one, especially not Saffron.

"So could I." Vi grinned at her. "Don't worry, I've got your back."
