fandomhigh as usual for consistency, however, detention activites are occurring in town at the Town Hall.]

Lorelai is waiting in the foyer of the town hall promptly at 8am. She's looking longingly at the coffee and doughnuts spread that Luke thoughtfully provided while sipping her herbal tea and eating a banana.

She checks names off a clipboard as people arrive.

"Okay gang. This detention can be as easy or as hard as you make it," she says once everyone has arrived. "If you put a little effort in to getting the work done, you can be out of here in more than enough time to enjoy the prom. If you don't, well, you're only hurting yourself."

Lorelai tapes up a list of information that people might need.

[ETA: I turned off comment screening so that townies who have stuff for helping to set up the prom can poke in. That would probably be best under the Other Misc Decoration thread. Also, StuCo members and faculty who might have need of being involved in set up are more than welcome!]

"I can do electricity," Angel said. "Don't ask me to set up DVD players, but wires I'm good with. Not like getting accidentally electrocuted is a problem."

"I can set up DVD players," Veronica said.

"Just point me where you need me," Angel said. He looked over the nest of wires. "Though I think I can at least set up the power supply."

"That would be helpful," Veronica agreed as she started to untangle wires. "Just try not to develop a crush on me," she teased.

Angel facepalmed. He refrained from asking where she was with that advice months ago. Instead he went with: "I'm not under a love spell!"

Pause.

"I think."

"I really hope you're not. I don't want prom to be ruined because we have to stake you or something," Veronica said.

"I'd appreciate that," Angel said. "And I don't actually have a crush on Prof. Lyman. Xander's insane."

"If you say so," Veronica said. "So it's just Elizabeth then? What does Callisto think about that?"

Facepalm. Squirm. Attempt to buy time by untangling wires. "Um. We talked about it. We're good."

There. That wasn't totally a lie.

"Okay," Veronica said, not sure if she actually believed that.

"Are you looking forward to tonight?" she asked. "I totally voted for you for King."

"I'm looking forward to doing something to make Cal happy," Angel said. "I've put her through a lot this week. She's earned some pampering."

"From what I've heard on the radio, I can't disagree with that," Veronica said with a smirk. "I'm planning to have fun tonight. Things have been way too stressful lately."

"I'm glad," Angel said. And yes, there was a stab of guilt here but that didn't make it less true. "After you and - you know. I'm glad you've got something that can make you happy."

"Yeah," she said, swallowing hard. "I can't change the past, so I need to focus on the future, right?"

"That's been the story of my life," Angel said, possibly agreeing with Veronica's sentiment on levels he wasn't going to let her know about. "All we can do is live in the now. Best we can, anyway."

"Exactly," Veronica agreed, forcing a grin. "That's why we're going to have fun at our prom tonight. Just like normal teenageres."

"Normal teenagers that go to a high school that occasionally rains pudding."

"It better not rain pudding at the prom," Veronica said. "I'll be pissed if my dress gets ruined."

"What'd you get?" Angel asked. He managed to create some sparks as he connected some of the wires, but he didn't look perturbed by it.

"Not a sailor suit," she replied immediately.

Angel blinked.

"O...kay?"

Veronica facepalmed. "Marty's brilliant idea," she explained. "Since I'm going with Archie?" She shook her head. "He's a dead man next time I see him."

"Ohhh," Angel said, getting it. He looked Veronica over. "Sailor suit could be cute."

If looks could kill? Well, it would be good that Angel was already dead.

"I think the one Marty sent me would be a wee bit inappropriate," she explained. "Besides, I bought a dress and it's the prom, not a costume party."

"Does that mean if we were having a costume party, I could see you in the suit?"

It was possible Angel was pre-ducking the thwap that was undoubtedly heading in his direction.
