fandomhigh as usual for consistency, however, detention activites are occurring in town at the Town Hall.]

Lorelai is waiting in the foyer of the town hall promptly at 8am. She's looking longingly at the coffee and doughnuts spread that Luke thoughtfully provided while sipping her herbal tea and eating a banana.

She checks names off a clipboard as people arrive.

"Okay gang. This detention can be as easy or as hard as you make it," she says once everyone has arrived. "If you put a little effort in to getting the work done, you can be out of here in more than enough time to enjoy the prom. If you don't, well, you're only hurting yourself."

If looks could kill? Well, it would be good that Angel was already dead.

"I think the one Marty sent me would be a wee bit inappropriate," she explained. "Besides, I bought a dress and it's the prom, not a costume party."

"Does that mean if we were having a costume party, I could see you in the suit?"

It was possible Angel was pre-ducking the thwap that was undoubtedly heading in his direction.

"I really don't think that would be a good idea," Veronica said.

"Worried I'd lose my soul?"

"Something like that," she grinned.

"You know, you do have footage of me doing boykissy. I think the least you could do is show me you in a sailor suit."

That thwap Angel was expecting earlier? Totally headed his way now.

"Angel, you have a girlfriend that could kill me with her pinkie finger. I wouldn't want to do anything to tempt you that would get me killed."

"Ow!" Angel rubbed the spot where she thwapped him. "Oh sure. Now you decide not to live a life of danger."

"You had your chance," Veronica reminded him. "And we decided to just be friends."

"I stand by that decision," Angel said. Though there may have been a layer of wistfullness deep behind that sentiment.

"So do I," Veronica said, though there may have been a brief thought of 'what if' running through her mind.

"Should we test these lights then?" Angel asked, recognizing a need for a subject change when he saw one.

Veronica nodded. "Yeah, I think testing them would be a good idea." She bit her lip. "I'll stand over here and let you do that, just in case."

"Probably wise," Angel said. "Dead bodies tend to handle this stuff better."

"I am a very smart girl," Veronica said. "Um, most of the time."

"I didn't say anything," Angel replied, innocently.

"You didn't have to."

Angel grinned. "Okay, stand back."

He flipped a switch on the circuit breaker. The lights dimmed, there was a spark, then they flared up in all their colored glory.

Angel looked pleased.
