Non-Deadly Heroics, Monday, Period Two

"So there's a highly overlooked option for not dying heroically, which is not to become a hero at all," Aphra informed the class cheerfully. "This doesn't mean you can't also do things that others people might consider heroic, but certain kinds of trouble are less likely to try and kill you if you don't go around calling yourself a hero."

"Plus alternate careers can be both more profitable and even more exciting," Isabela added. "Like being a pirate!"

Which would explain why class was being held on The Siren's Call today. Guess it was time to play at pirates.

"A sea shanty?" Graham's eyes lit up at the prospect. "Don't mind if I do! Do you know 'The Seagulls Know My Secrets'? Oh! Or maybe 'To the Shores of the Land of the Green Isles'!"

"I do not," Charlie said, "but I think I'm about to learn!Sing them for me, Graham!"

"You've got it, Charlie!" Graham called up again before taking a moment to straighten his shoulders, clearing his throat a little, and giving a little warm up before he launched into an incredibly jaunty ditty with a grin. It was a swinging tune about a sailor listing off some of his more nefarious deeds to a seagull companion....who would conveniently interrupt when the more suggestive details were about to be revealed with a chorus of whole-heartedly performed caws and squawks in melody.

Graham himself probably wasn't about to win any accolades for his voice, but that showmanship more than made up for it.

"That is amazing!" Charlie said. "When we're back on solid land again I'm going to write that down and then I'll figure out a guitar part so we can sing it together!"

She was grinning from ear to ear, both from the fun of the song and for being able to share something else with Graham. And oh was she dying to sketch a quick little 'mine' charm on him. Not that anyone else would be able to see it - unless the Aunties made it here for Parent's Weekend.

"Zounds!" said Graham, grinning very much in kind; he never really had much experience with actual bards, but now that the prospect seemed well at hand, he couldn't help being excited about. "That's a great idea! Maybe they'll even let us perform it some time, at that stage at the tavern!"

"That would be amazing!" Charlie agreed. "And even if they don't I have plans to go over to the mainland and hit up an Irish Sessiun or two and this would go over a treat at one of those. You could join me!"
pun_king: (hey! that's pretty great!)

"I would love to!" Somehow, Graham's grin managed to find a little more room to grow brighter and broader. "Maybe we can even perform it this weekend! For some of the parents' weekend visitors!"

"Why not?" Charlie said, with her usual degree of cheer. "We'll have to carve out some time for practicing, though. Maybe learn a couple of songs."

[OOC: Do you mind if Charlie sketches a little invisible 'mine' on Graham? Won't affect him in any way.]

"At least a couple!" Graham agreed. "One from you, one from me, at minimum, and believe me, I've got plenty more in my pockets!"

He laughed a little bit, throwing in a jaunty expression that was almost a wink, but not quite there. "I usually have plenty in my pockets!"

[[ not at all! Sketch/charm away! ]]

"You and your pockets!" Charlie said admiringly. "I've got a ton in my, well, not my pockets, but in my repertoire. We can make a good showing of it for sure. Plus, I'm always up for learning more songs."

She couldn't resist. She leaned in a little closer and sketched a charm on his forehead. Mine. "Got a stray hair there. All good now."

Graham preened a little bit at that, proud as ever as of his pockets, but his eyes drifted up at the movement of Charlie's hand toward his forehead with a little bit of surprise.

"Ah," he said, nodding a little at the explanation, although he should think his cap would prevent too much of that. "Must be these strong salty sea breezes..."

That, he might feel compelled to point out, was surely the reason for the sudden ruddiness that had sprung up across his cheeks just now, too, and he gave Charlie a thumbs up.

"Good looking out, though!"

"Always happy to help a friend," Charlie said, smiling at the only visible to her charm. "Especially one with wonderful things hidden in his pockets."

Oh, were he not from a family-friendly franchise!

But, since he most certainly was, he could only preen proudly in fond agreement. "They are pretty great pockets," he noted, "it's true."

This could be an entirely different thread! And yet, still all was good!

"It almost makes me want a cloak of my own," Charlie said, "But I couldn't carry it off half as well."
