Summer Shenanigans, Wednesday, July 27, 2022

Anakin's children had outgrown a summer slide obstacle course years ago, but it didn't mean it wasn't stuck in the back of his brain as an option for torture team building.

When everyone arrived at the park, they'd find a rickety-on-purpose wooden bridge across the duck/flamingo pond, an entire line of inflatable hurdles being sprayed by sprinklers, some kind of ring toss with a water cannon pointed at where the participants would be standing, and a Slip 'n Slide that would really serve no purpose other than to remind adults that gravity exists and they shouldn't be on a Slip 'n Slide past the age of about ten.

"Today we're running an obstacle course!" he said. At least it was stupidly humid outside, so getting wet wasn't a hardship. "Fastest through wins! No power usage! Listen for your names!"

Steve stepped onto the bridge, knees bending to compensate for the wobbling. He glanced at the competition and made a silent bet about how far Beaker would fly when Sidon started to run.

"Ohno," said Graham, who was crouched down low and creeping very slowly across the rickety bridge as close to the center as he could possibly get, his arms out for extra balance, "ohno, onno, ohno..."

Fine. He was fine. This was fi--

"OH NO!"

It's like you could tell, the exact moment, when Sidon started to run.

"MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE---"

And that was Beaker into the pond.

"Oh no!" said Graham, yet again, his vocabulary clearly reduced to that very apt phrase in these moments. Instinctively, though, his first response when Beaker went flying after he himself manage to miraculously keep his low and somewhat wobbly crouch, was to reach out for him to try and save him. Of course, it was much too late for that, but that didn't seem to stop Graham from lunging forward in an effort to still grab him.

Which was, of course, when Sidon hit the launch off the bridge, and there went Graham right after Beaker.

Steve braced for the first bounce but would be totally screwed by the second one. He glanced over the side to make sure the kids were okay.

"You guys good?"

With a big, bright grin beaming across his face, as expected, Sidon was clearly stoked about this challenge and sent that sparkling smile around to his competition. "Ahhh, I see they've given us the easy one, lads!" he said with a bright laugh. "No matter! We can do it!" There was the encouraging fist bump. "I believe in you! Last one there is a rotten trout!"

And that was when the inevitable dash across the bridge began, with the full intention of using his momentum to get him as far as he could until the ricketiness became unviable, after which he full intended to launch himself into a flip in the air long enough to get him to the other side...

Which was sure to do wonders for those still left on the bridge!

Would Stark's sometimes questionable depth perception be an issue for jumping over hurdles? Probably. Would the wet grass make it all much worse? Definitely. Was Anakin going to get a wet, grassy hug after this? Absolutely.

Jon's ability to jump was questionable at best.

Which mattered very little, as he missed the first one, slipped, and slid the rest of the way in one fell swoop.

Hannibal, who was really rather amused with his shirt, set out to do his best. Which was, he supposed, adequate.

At least the shirt wouldn't show grass stains.

Right. Lana was going to do this, and since she'd been caught "cheating" last time, she was absolutely going to do this without the Force.

She made it through flawlessly, thank you very much.

Also last, but it was the principle of the thing.

What tripped Rey up was the water cannon, and you better believe she was mad about this turn of events.

But she tried again, missed, got sprayed again, and now she was just gonna chest.

Usually, Sakaki was incredibly good at things like this, but as she, with a face far too serious for the event, really, stepped up to make her first toss, she caught, in the corner of her eye, a duck family hastily trying to move themselves out of the area much too late. They were making it to safety just fine, of course, but so distracted, her first toss went wildly off range.

Which meant she got blasted from the cannon.

Which wouldn't have been too much of deterrent if it had been water, but the realization that it was soda...!

That was going to take Sakaki a few moments to recover from.

Did you know how much of a task it was going to be? Washing soda out of all this hair??? Not to mention that she now smelled like ranch...

How the hell did Steph manage to win this? No clue. Maybe the fact that she was too busy being Broody McBroodface to think too hard about it helped?

Jo was having a really miserable time with this because she missed the first time she tried yo throw and by the time she had finished her clothes were soaked and very sticky.

She really had to stop wearing such nice clothes to these things.

For a brief moment, Libby was blissfully under the impression that it was just a regular old slip'n'slide, nothing to worry about here.

It did not take her long to realize that this was, of course, a very silly assumption.

"....why?" was all she could think to ask, eyes instinctively going heavenward to wonder if this was some sort of divine punishment for one of....well, if she was honest, many recent transgressions....

Goose was very enthusiastic about the slide, even when he belatedly realised that it wasn’t just water.

He probably shouldn’t have enjoyed it as much as he did.

Miguel might not have the weight and inertia of a super soldier, but he did have the agility to make the most out what he did have.

He also now had pudding under his talons. Ew.
