"Welcome back to another week of team-building!" Anakin yelled through his megaphone. "Today you will be in four teams of seven and you will be fishing with your toes for valuable prizes!"

They weren't that valuable, folks.

He gestured at the four inflatable pools located around the park with folding chairs circling them. "Working together, you have to pull 21 smallish objects from the water--" and be grateful that it's just water, "--using only your toes. And no powers. The fastest team to accomplish this wins. Listen for your name, come get your shirt and take off your shoes!"

Look, last week's shirt had had cats and extreme amounts of ridiculousness going for it. This week? Steph was just holding up the shirt and staring at it.

"Okay, this is... this is actually going to pain me."

"I'm sure you can pull it off," Vi said, her eyes very firmly fixed above Steph's shoulders, thank you.

She almost managed it with a straight face.

"No, you're thinking of the sleeves on yours," Steph retorted immediately. "But this thing is coming off the second we're done with, uh... all of this."

Look, it wasn't her fault all her pants were either skinny jeans or really short shorts, okay?

It mightn't have been her fault, but now the image of Steph in nothing but short shorts and her terrible shirt was seared into Vi's brain.

"Not as big a fan of fish as cats?"

Roll a con save at disadvantage against that mental image, Vi. 2d4 psychic damage on a failed save, half that on a success.

"There are so many jokes I'm not making right now," Steph told her, smirking.

It was adorable that Steph's narrative thought Vi's brain was capable of enough maths for con checks right now.

"However will you cope," Vi joked back, eyes definitely travelling further south than she meant them to.

Steph's narrative was confident in her abilities, okay?

"Guess I'll just have to deal," she replied with a melodramatic sigh. Figuring she might as well start preparing for this, she went ahead and kicked her shoes off. "And stick my feet in some really fucking cold water for a while."

Hey, maybe that would help Vi, too!

Possibly overconfident.

"Yeah." Considering how warm under the collar Vi was feeling, cold water couldn't hurt.

Maybe just a little bit.

"I promise not to push you in this week," Steph told her, and given her slightly sheepish expression, she still kind of felt bad about that.

Maybe just a little bit. Not that bad, though.

Steph had gotten a piggy back ride out of it, so why would she feel that bad?

"Worried about falling in after me again?" That's not what happened, Vi.

Exactly, because it had been awesome.

Steph crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow at her, challenging. "Oh, that's what we're calling you pulling me down with you now?"

Were you trying to make it happen again, Steph?

Luckily for both of them, the kiddie pools were both not deep enough and too full of dubious stuff for Vi to follow through on that idea.

"Well you certainly didn't stay on the dock," Vi argued.

Luckily for both of them, or for everyone else?

"Yeah, thanks to some pink-haired genius who thought I could actually keep her from falling in," Steph shot back, aiming a playful poke at Vi's arm.

Couldn't it be both?

"True, I forgot for a moment about your noodle arms," Vi said, poking right back.

Steph gave her an utterly betrayed look and tried to make a grab for her wrist.

"Remember what happened last time you called me that?" Was that useless as a threat? Yes. Did she know that? Also yes.

Look, if Steph didn't keep reacting like this, it wouldn't be so fun to do.

Vi let Steph grab her wrist, then tried to use the leverage to pull Steph into a headlock. "I have a vague recollection."

Steph sighed and, it should be noted, made absolutely no attempt to avoid getting put into a headlock.

"I have mentioned you're the worst, right?" she asked. Affectionately. "I swear to god, next time you say it, I am going to bite you."

"Promises, promises," Vi said, laughing and letting Steph go. "I won't mention them again."

This was a lie.

"My ass you won't," Steph said, and went to elbow her lightly.

It was like Vi wanted Steph to bite her or something.

Perish the thought.

"No, your ass isn't noodly at all," Vi said as she dodged Steph's elbows.

Well, that would be a ridiculous thought, wouldn't it.

"Very considerate of you to say so," Steph said, looking just the tiniest bit smug.

Completely and utterly so. Why would Vi ever want that?

"I wouldn't say it if it wasn't true."

Why indeed? It wasn't like there was any reason to think she might.

"You are my favorite for so many reasons," Steph informed her.

None at all. Or to think she might like to bite Steph in return.

"It's the ego boost, right?"

Well, there was no reason to suspect that was a possibility either.

"That's nice, definitely," Steph allowed. "But I also trust you to keep my ego from getting out of control."
