Summer Shenanigans, Wednesday, May 18, 2022

"Welcome back to another week of team-building!" Anakin yelled through his megaphone. "Today you will be in four teams of seven and you will be fishing with your toes for valuable prizes!"

They weren't that valuable, folks.

He gestured at the four inflatable pools located around the park with folding chairs circling them. "Working together, you have to pull 21 smallish objects from the water--" and be grateful that it's just water, "--using only your toes. And no powers. The fastest team to accomplish this wins. Listen for your name, come get your shirt and take off your shoes!"

You know, if someone were recording this, they'd probably be able to make decent money on OnlyFans.

Not that Wanda was thinking about that. Even if she did have cute feet.

The water was a little cold, but honestly this was a joy compared to some of the other stuff she had done last summer.

As long as they beat Rosa(s)'s team, Amaya was going to be pleased, but she was definitely also going to strive to make that win by as big of a margin as she could.

She wasn't nearly as nimble with her toes, sure, but she definitely had the determination, if the furrowed brow of concentration and the slight bit of tongue sticking out of the corner of her mouth was any indication.

Having a natural ability to grip and hold things with one's toes wasn't a super power if it was a part of your DNA and wasn't something you could like shut off or anything was it?

Given that most of her pants were skinny jeans, Steph was kind of glad she had shorts on today. Well... kind of glad, also kind of sorry she didn't have that excuse to nope out.

"Oh god, why," she groaned as she encountered something that had no business being that squelchy.

Yeah, she was leaving that alone and going for --

"A hot dog? Seriously?"

"I don't know why he's like this," Stark said, sounding almost apologetic.

"I mean, I enjoy being kind of evil to my players in a lot of the games I run," Steph admitted, "but this is a whole different level. Possibly a different plane, even."

She kicked the squelchy thing away because she seriously didn't want to know, and went poking around for something else instead -- which turned out to be cold and felt like metal of some kind.

"Okay," she said, lifting one foot out of the water with a very large, gaudy silver octopus belt buckle between her toes, "that's... sure as hell something."

"It's shiny?" Stark said with a shrug. "All I got was a rock so far. A pointy rock."

It wasn't even that shiny!

"But it still counts toward our total," Steph pointed out. "We can do this, let's go!"

God, she hoped nobody caught the goldfish, though.

Stark was not catching any goldfish, thank you very much.

"It does. And there's...I don't know what this is." He frowned, trying to pick up whatever the object was and fumbling it a few times. Picking things up with his feet was not a skill he'd honed, for some reason.

"A...spoon?" Nope. It was a metal spork. Because why not?

"This is so weird. Does he do this every summer?" Steph wanted to know -- and yanked her foot out of the water with a visible shudder when one of the goldfish grazed her toes.
stykera: (not amused)

Re: River Wranglers

[personal profile] stykera 2022-05-19 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
"Different things every week, yes," Stark confirmed. "Every summer since I've been back. I don't know when it started. While I was gone, the last time. Or the time before last. I don't know if leaving this time really counted as leaving. It was just a visit that lasted longer there than here and longer than I thought it would."

He slid his foot cautiously to his left, trying to feel for something that didn't move on its own or squish when touched.

Steph carefully stuck her foot back into the water and prodded around experimentally for a bit before she came back up with what looked like a miniature rubber duck in a top hat.

"Does it get weirder and weirder every week?" she asked. "Because that kind of makes me want to just keep doing it."

Yes, she'd actually come down here specifically to get roped in both times so far.
stykera: (awkward)

"It's always weird. We were squirrel-sized one week last summer," Stark told her with an overly dramatic sigh. "I didn't like that one very much."

"Don't let him hear you." Stark glanced over at Anakin. "He might get ideas."

Anakin didn't need any new ideas. Or any old ones.

"I feel like he's gonna get those with my help or without it," Steph said dubiously. "Like, he has a whole catalog of ideas by now as it is, it's not like he's in any danger of running out."
stykera: (a little unhappy)

Re: River Wranglers

[personal profile] stykera 2022-05-18 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Stark sighed, removed his shoes, and sighed more once his feet were actually in the water. It was kind of cold and there were slimy things and...

"I think I found a rock," he said. It was kind of pointy. Of course he'd put his foot right on it.

On the one hand, Gray was actually pretty adept at picking up stuff with his toes, since he was often too lazy to bend down and use his hands. On the other, he was working against the clock since he was sitting in a fairly comfortable chair in the sunshine, which was prime napping conditions.

"Okay," he told his team very seriously, "we need to get this done before I fall asleep."
