Library, Thursday 11/18

Of course Belle had taken a job in the library when she realized they were available. She got to spend more time surrounded by books and be paid for her time. She couldn't ask for much more than that.

She was settled at the desk for the moment with a book on astronomy that had leapt off a shelf into her hands and opened itself up to a section on eclipses. A little additional research had revealed there was meant to be a lunar eclipse very early tomorrow morning.

A few other books had followed her to the desk, just in case she might need to know more about the moon or the sun or eclipses or various other astronomical things.

"Diego's here," Five said like that made up for it. "And Ben was apparently a ghost the whole time."

"He died while I was in the future," Five confirmed. "And it turns out that my other brother, Klaus, has been seeing him since then."

"You have the oddest family I've ever heard of," Belle told him. "Including fictional ones."

And she read a lot, Five. A lot.

"It could be both," Belle pointed out. "Odd and dysfunctional."

Five rolled his eyes, but allowed for that. "I'm working my way through the books on time travel here."

"Have you found anything useful yet? Perhaps I could help?"

She didn't know anything about time travel but Belle was pretty good at books.

"You want to help?" But wasn't his stand-offish nature working to push her away despite desperately needing friendship?

"I like research," Belle said quickly.

This was not at all because she loved grumpy old men who pushed her away, how dare you imply such a thing.

"Well." He did a little sniff as he looked back at the stacks. "Are you able to order books?"

"I can request them," Belle said. "Do you know what you need?"

"Anything you can find about time travel or--" He made a deeply annoyed little noise that was covered with a sigh. "--anything about symbiotic abilities."

Ugh. The power of family.

"What happens if they turn out to be books on magic?" Belle asked because how could she let that opportunity pass her by.

"I'll see what I can find. Time travel I'm sure there's something. I'm not so certain about the other."

Maybe you needed to explain about the power of familial love, Five.

Uuuuugh, don't make him say it out loud.

"As in powers," he said, trying to talk around it because Annie. All because of Annie. "It appears that my siblings and I are able to...access more of our abilities when in proximity to each other."

"I've never heard of that," Belle admitted. As if the very idea of powers that weren't just magic weren't something brand new to her this year.

"But it does sound interesting."

"Well, if you're able to find anything on the subject matter." It would be magic base, wouldn't it? Just to drive him mad.

"I'll see what I can do," Belle promised. "And let you know."

"Thank you." Look at him saying it unprompted.

This conversation had been entirely too polite for the two of them. What was the world coming to?

Which was why he offered over the book he'd been looking to read to check out. Clearly nothing bad could come of it. Also because there was some strange, intense looking going on there between them.

Intense looks? Between these two? Never.

Belle took the book to check out, looking at the cover curiously.

"I hope it's useful," she said, offering it back.

The book took that opportunity to open to a random page and spew glitter on the both of them. Because why wouldn't a book do that in this library?

"Did you do that?"

The glitter was never coming out of her hair.

"Why would I do that to myself?" he demanded, frantically trying to get it off his adorable suit.

"You had the book! I certainly didn't do that."

Oh no, was there glitter stuck to his little knee socks?
