"Today, since it's between sessions, Beaker has decided to take point," Anakin announced from where his bullhorn was poking out from an absolutely enormous pile of donuts.

The new raccoons had apparently decided to show up today to get new customers through their amazing donuts...tower...things.

So. There were a lot of donuts.

Just. A lot.

"Today we're going to use these donuts--thank you, County Donuts--in a relay race...thing. You can only pass them under your chin. Fortunately, we have a lot of extras for when you drop them!"

He turned to Beaker. "Are there any other rules?"

Beaker meeped extensively. Anakin's eyes went wide. "Well, that's going to get messy."

"Meep meep."

Anakin coughed. "Apparently the donuts are also on a timer and they will disintegrate into sprinkles--or jelly, or cream--if you take too long."

Thank you, Muppet physics.

"Listen for your names! There will be four teams of seven."

Beaker meeped smugly.

Anakin sighed. "And I, apparently, have been included. Come get your t-shirts."

"I actually do like it," Annie agreed admiringly, shaking her head in amazement at the sheer tackiness of his shirt. "And hey, look, it's mostly black, even if it has red and white and a pun on it."

So it still went with his whole aesthetic. Mostly.

"The pun is the best part," he said, sitting down next to her. "I see you found the new donut place. Or it found you, rather."

And it wasn't even an untruthful pun, in Annie's experience. "Did you have any doubt?" she asked, leaning over to press a kiss to his cheek. "This is so awesome."

And apparently kind of cinnamon-y, now? Though she wasn't sure if that was the donut -- especially given the persistent lemon thing -- and now she was frowning kind of thoughtfully at Diego. "Did you get, like, a new soap? Or aftershave or something?"

"No?" Diego lifted up his shirt over his nose to smell himself. "Do I smell bad or something?"

"No, you smell like -- wait." Annie leaned in and kissed his cheek again, then licked her lips. "I think you taste like something."

Normal thing to say to your boyfriend in public at the park.

"Cinnamon?" Not quite, though.

"Really?" Diego hesitantly lifted up his hand to lick the outside of it. Hey, he didn't know if she was teasing him or not. "Huh...yeah, cinnamon. And an alcohol aftertaste."

"Yeah, it's got kind of a boozy quality," Annie agreed, glad she wasn't, like, losing it.

Though, you know, that could be up in the air considering she leaned over to lightly lick at his neck -- again, kind of thoughtful about it, because she was trying to place where she'd had that before. It was scientific licking. "I mean, it's good at least?"

"I feel like I should be more worried about this." But since he tasted good it wasn't all that bad. Worse things had happened to him in the last week.

He leaned in to kiss her cheek, because turnabout and all that. He licked his lips. "You taste like lemons."

"Something has tasted like lemons all day," Annie said, eyes wide, and yeah, she was also totally going to lick her own hand now. "Like lemon candy."

Which made sense. If there was Starlight candy, and it was probably only a matter of time, it'd probably be lemony.

"At least you're still you?" she offered. Because yeah, this was definitely better than being a cat, right?

"I guess that's an improvement," he said with a nod. "You are free to keep licking me, by the way."

"I mean, feel free to dispute this, but I don't feel like that's restricted to today," Annie noted.

And you know what, she was going to take him up on that, and leaned over to lick his cheek, being more silly than sexy about it. There would be time for that later, of course. Even if, "Lemon and cinnamon booze go together kind of weird?"

Like, not bad, just sort of an unexpected combination.

That assessment tracked with their relationship, pretty much.

"I don't think they're going to be making lemon-cinnamon drinks any time soon," he agreed. "But it's not, like, terrible. Not bad enough to stop kissing you or anything."

"Better not be. I'd kiss you even if you tasted gross," Annie said, tilting her head to actually kiss him.

That was a cute thing to say and all, but Annie could have very easily been flavored like a Charleston Chew, or a Peep, or something, and put it to the test.

Yeah if she had tasted like a Charleston Chew there may have been a problem.

The kiss was interesting, but by no means bad. It was just weird getting a taste of lemon followed by burning cinnamon. "This is a weird day."

"It's pretty low on the weird scale?" Annie hedged thoughtfully. "Like, the flavor thing plus --" She gestured with one hand to their surroundings, ending with a flourish at his shirt, "like, yeah, today's weird. But at least it's fun weird! Like I'm actually kind of glad I'm here for this one."

"Jealous you don't get to join in on the donut fun?" he asked. "I'll switch places with you if you want."

"I don't think you're allowed," Annie assured him, shaking her head so very sadly. "I'll just watch and cheer for you. Even if I think this is a catastrophic waste of donuts."

Like, the tragedy of it all.

"Have you seen how many of these donuts are around?" he asked. "I don't think we can eat them fast enough."

"Spoken like a quitter. I bet they'd freeze," Annie suggested, tapping her chin. "Like, maybe not the kinds with filling, but the more basic ones probably could be."

And now she was going to have to try.

"Maybe the rest of you are the ones with a problem," Annie replied, lifting her brows. "And besides, I'm not like, indiscriminate about it. Not all fried dough. Like, Elephant Ears are kind of trash."

"They're about on the same level as funnel cakes." Meaning they were really only good if you were surrounded by a carnival.

"No way." No, there were opinions to be had about this, clearly. "Funnel cakes are way easier to eat."

An elephant ear was like an uncooperative pancake covered in powdered sugar.

"But, still, point stands -- not all fried dough is created equal."

"I'm not about to argue with the fried dough master about it," he said, lifting up his hands. "I know I'd lose."
