Another Wednesday, another insane set-up in the park!

Today there was a new, six part metal obstacle course set up: a tilted cube, a mountain, a loading bay, the ridge, the front line, and The Sisters.

"Welcome to professional tag," Anakin yelled into his megaphone, "which is apparently a sport now. We will divide into two teams: Team Pizza will be the taggers, Team Dread will be the, um, don't get tagged."

He was from a different galaxy, what do you want from him?

"Going in pairs, you will have 20 seconds in the obstacle course to either track down or evade the other person. If you get tagged, the other team gets a point. If you evade getting tagged, your team gets a point It's pretty easy. Listen for your name and then come get your shirt!"

"Awful in a 'holy shit, I can't believe someone made this' way, or just plain awful?" Annie checked. "Because, like, really bad Hawaiian prints are kind of amazing sometimes."

"There was a lot of tans and beiges involved." So it was actually pretty ugly.

"Gross. We should have some kind of like...disposal ritual for all these shirts at the end of summer. Like a bonfire or we can donate them all to the raccoons or something."

Annie smoothed her hand along her stomach, and added, "Except this one." She liked the angry pizza guy!

"That would be cathartic," Wanda greed. She nodded over at Anakin. "I think he gets a lot of joy out of the shirts, and I'd rather be tortured with that than the bullhorn."

"You think there'd be retribution if we had a shirt bonfire in August?" Annie asked curiously, eyes wide. "He's pretty, like, crafty, from what I can tell."

Like, even aside from the Wednesdays, she had run -- and failed -- Rey's obstacle course.

"He could make things worse for us next summer," Wanda said. "Or do some sort of special winter games that involves us looking stupid in the snow."

Though she had to admit she had done pretty well for herself yesterday when the shop was covered in ice.

"Just imagine the ugly snowsuits."

"I'm cheating with powers if he does that," Annie decided. "Snowsuits are ugly enough without help. And like, I'm from the middle of the country, I'm super used to snow and ugly clothes, but there's enough people here from warm climates that that would be a real disadvantage, too."

"Oh I'd be cheating too," he said. "Technically he didn't say anything about powers for today but it feels wrong using them for tag."

"And like, I always feel bad if I'm using them for something like this and the person I'm competing against doesn't have 'em," Annie admitted. "I'd rather just prove I'm the faster runner with my normal, boring, human legs."

Super-strength remained fair game.

"I hope the person I chase is kind of slow," she admitted. "Running isn't really part of my regular training."

Downside to being a magical powerhouse, really. The whole physical aspect gets ignored.

"It's part of mine, but I'm slow," Annie admitted. "I run with my boyfriend and with that guy," she pointed out Steve, "pretty regularly and they can both beat me."

Which was kind of a harbinger for how this game of tag would go, yep.

"And I don't recommend training on the stairs here, if you decide to add running in," she added, making a face.

"Oh yeah, that guy is very upset he keeps getting lapped by my Steve," she said with a laugh, looking over at Steve. "I tried to make him feel better about it, but I don't think it worked."

"I already had to carry a bowling ball up those stairs, I'd rather not do it again."

"Hang on, hang on, Captain America is your Steve?" Annie asked, both curious and envious. Because she, too, had been lapped by Captain America, damn it.

She was pretty sure he was, you know, Tony's Steve, but it didn't seem like Wanda necessarily meant it like that, anyway.

"Yeah--well, no, not in that way, obviously, but it's just how I refer to it in my head to make radio less complicated," she admitted. "But he's my friend-slash-boss."

"So you're on his team with him?" Annie asked curiously. "I've done a little superhero work with him, a couple times. He seems like a good leader."

Annie's boss was significantly not as cool. Though he was, perhaps, even more patriotic.

Wanda nodded. "Yeah, we're Avengers. He really is a good leader. It's almost intimidating how good he is, actually."

"One time," Annie confided, "I blasted a marzipan boulder that was heading for us -- long story -- and he told me my powers were swell."

Annie clasped a hand to her heart, fluttering her lashes. "Highest praise I've ever received, probably." Including all her pageant wins!

"That sounds about right," she said with a laugh. "Good luck doubting yourself when he's around."

"So like, you got a cool superhero name and everything?" Annie had to ask, lifting her brows. "I mean, I will tell you that I have a lot of professional envy over 'Avengers', already. My team's called The Seven."

Which was, like, super elegant in its simplicity, but Annie really liked the idea of avenging stuff. Maybe she should have tried out for --

Huh. So not-Soldier Boy and not-Crimson Countess were totally on what sounded like not-Payback. Interesting.

"Because there's seven of you?" she guessed. "I actually don't have a code name. I mean--recently one came up but I haven't, like, tried it out yet. Steve doesn't even know about it."

"Yep, though there's actually only four right now. One guy's in a coma, one guy's on creepy-dude leave, and we're replacing a chick who turned out to be a Nazi," Annie shared casually. "Code names can be kind of tricky. I've had mine since I was, like, three, but I know at least one guy who decided to change his later on because his original name kind of sucked."

"...that's a whole lot for your team to go through." Understatement. "I mean, I was on the run from the government for a bit, but I got my name cleared."

Only had to save the world to make that happen.

"What's your code name?" That seemed like a safer conversation to have than discussing anything that might be hard to talk about. Like Nazis.

It had been a busy spring!

"Starlight," Annie told her with a little smile. "It's so weird how you call Captain America Steve -- like, on my team, we never use each other's given names. I'm kind of jealous of the...like, informality."

She honestly didn't even know anyone's real name.

"Some of us try." Namely people like Peter Parker, who was underage, and Wanda totally understood the secrecy there. "I was always just Wanda. But recently someone said I was the Scarlet Witch? And I thought that sounded kind of cool for a code name. And extremely accurate."

"Oh my God, that is such a cool code name. And, okay, honestly, I have to tell you -- there's a chick my universe who I think has powers just like yours, and she goes by Crimson Countess," Annie said, unable to hold it back any longer in light of that code name because seriously. "Don't feel too weird about it -- there's a lot of that. There's a guy who's just like Captain America, too."
