Summer Shenanigans, Wednesday, May 19, 2021

Good morning, everyone! The sun was shining, the weather was getting pleasantly warm, ~~the freaking gross cicadas were crunching under your feet~~ and Anakin had set himself up in the park with a bullhorn and a bunch of giant plastic storage containers full of ice water.

Surely this will end well for everybody!

"Today you will participate in the ten toes challenge!" Anakin announced. "Working in teams, you will lay on your backs and balance these containers of ice water on your socked feet. Then, going in a circle, you must each take off one sock, then the other, without tipping the water onto yourselves. It's about teamwork!"

And gravity. And Anakin's personal amusement.

"Come down when I call your name and get your team socks!" He grinned. "Oh, and no powers again this week, please."

"I didn't sign up for this," Faye informed everyone loudly.

Cool, Faye, who do you think did?

"It's Anakin," Stark said by way of explanation.

"I didn't know he had horrific taste in addition to being cruel," Faye told him, eyeing the socks like they might come to life and bite her.

Which, like, Fandom. It wasn't exactly out of the question.

"He must be doing it on purpose," Stark said. "To torment us."

The two of them in particular, obviously.

"Ice water," Faye noted, ominously.

Obviously this was about them specifically, yes.

"Exactly." It couldn't be a coincidence!

A bolder man might have made a comment now about things turning out just fine after the last ice water incident.

"And even more of it."

"And we're not even on the same team," Faye noted with dismay, because yeah, that had turned out pretty okay in the end, even if the ice water itself had been incredibly unpleasant.

She gave Stark an exaggerated pout. "I don't even know what this is revenge for, this time." She hadn't stolen any ships and she wasn't even trying to drag anyone off to bang in a closet!

(...though she was sort of thinking about it, now. Not a lot of places for such a tryst in the park, sadly.)

The park was rather lacking in private areas. But it was a small island.

"I did hit him in the head with a paint balloon last week," Stark said, looking rather pleased with himself about that. "For paintball. His hair was blue. But I think revenge for that comes later."

He was going to spend his Fridays covered in paint and possibly welts. It might be worth it.

"You did?" Cue Faye reaching over to lightly smack his arm proudly. "Stark! That sounds amazing and I'm sad I wasn't there to see. Good job! That's a whole class, right?"

Because yeah, Faye was going to encourage paintball-related vengeance for the next six weeks, absolutely.

Stark grinned back at her.

"I did. He deserved it. And then he cheated."

Which just meant things were going to escalate this week. And every other week.

"It is a whole class. On Fridays."

"Not surprised he cheats." Said the known cheater. "And so you're going to get him back this Friday, right? Shoot him full of paint or whatever? Make sure to get it in his hair again."

Game recognized game -- or, in this case, person who cared about her hair too much recognized other person who cared about his hair too much.

"That's the plan," Stark confirmed. That was the entire extent of the plan so far. "If he cheats so can I." This could only end well.

Anakin and Faye both had lovely hair! Stark, meanwhile, was absolutely not going to let his grow at all this summer. That was just asking for something terrible to happen.

Which meant that Faye should probably be prepared to bear the burden of hair-related revenge.

"I'll help," Faye assured him. "I mean, without being in the class, I'm limited, but you know I'll help you get back at him."

Ladies and gentlemen: Faye Valentine saying the words, 'I'll help.' It's like Halley's Comet -- look now, or it might not happen again within your lifetime.

"Plenty of revenge opportunities without being in the class," Stark said with another grin. "And those might be more satisfying."

"I mean, not to brag, but I'm kind of great at stealing things," Faye noted. (And yes, that was completely false modesty, what with this being Faye and all.) "Like ships, if you wanted to do that again."

Though honestly she kind of wanted to see Stark steal Anakin's ship, if they went that route.

"We borrowed it," Stark corrected in a tone that suggested he knew that statement wasn't going to be believed. "He may have improved security measures since then."

But honestly, taking Anakin's ship just because did sound like fun. Fun that would possibly backfire in spectacular fashion... but fun.

"That's where I come in, sweetheart," Faye drawled, shaking her head and waving a hand dismissively. "Most ships I've st -- borrowed -- had 'security measures.'"

She did little air-quotes there, yes. It was really just a matter of figuring out what those measures were and then applying the correct method of entry.

(Sometimes the correct thing to do was to run away because the ship was programmed to self-destruct if someone tried to break in, but that was something they could deal with if it came up!)

"You're a terrible influence." But Stark was smiling as he said that.

"Does your ship? Not going to borrow it. Just curious."

"Of course," Faye assured him, smiling back. "It's very heavily armed, and I have a bunch of security measures hooked up just in case."

Her ship was more weaponry than spacecraft, honestly. It was a planet-to-planet hopper with way more guns and additional agility features than were probably necessary. (But at least it was a very safe ship, as a result.)

"Anakin might not borrow it back in retaliation then."

Probably.

"And I definitely won't. No desire to be exploded by an angry ship. Or pilot."

And he had zero reason to make Faye angry.
