Fandom High Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2021, Early Saturday Evening

After everything that had happened this week, it felt a little strange to just move on with graduation like normal. But, traditions were important, everything seemed to be mostly back to normal, and a little celebration might do wonders for cheering people up after such an emotionally taxing week. Plus, Fandom had to be out of weird crap to throw at people, so maybe the ceremony would be nice and mundane.

No one was actually saying that out loud, of course, but there was nothing wrong with holding onto a little hope.

As the sun went down, the finishing touches of decorations were made; the lawn of the school had been lit up with blue and gold lights, and there were chairs set up for all of the graduates, along with plenty of seats for guests to come and watch. The weather was behaving itself, and it looked like it would be a nice, warm spring evening.

Katy would be stoked about a visit to Fandom even if it wasn't for her big brother's graduation, but that just made it even better. She swept in to find a seat, looking around for some of the familiar faces from the brief visits and Facetimes through the years (or maybe some new cute ones, too, who knew?), and tried to decide what the best way to annoy and embarrass Wayne when he went up get his diploma.

Catra slunk up to a seat far away from Glimmer and Bow, but with a good view of the stage, scowling all the while like this whole thing was the dumbest idea on multiple planets.

Pay no attention to the loud weird purring noises Melog was making.

Was Illyana having some Abandonment Issues about the fact Adora, Lana, Uly, and Eleanor were all graduating?

ABSOLUTELY. She'd even tried to portal off-island so she wouldn't have to deal with it today, but Strange had locked her Portalocity account. Something something 'you can't run from everything, Snowflake.'

So here she was, taking a hesitant seat to cheer them all on as they graduated from this inane madhouse.

Even if she was feeling pretty torn up about the reality of Sabine actually graduating, especially after everything the last week had oh so handwavily gone through, Astrid was at least glad for the fact that this was a good distraction from a few....unfortunate calls she may have made while influenced by the deepest fears involving her mother...

...and could potentially replace them with fears of the fact that she'd be doing this next year, and then what? So she was mostly going to focus on celebrating the day for her friends that were graduating and focusing on very little more.

Maybe starting on sketching them all in their caps and gowns, too.

Okoye was there, serving as protection for both T'Challa and Ramonda, and as such had her head on a pivot as she scoped out people based on how likely they were to charge the Wakandan royal family.

Nell was here to cheer for Lana as she graduated. She was certainly going to miss her during the next school year.

Would people recognize the strange pair who tried to teach moral philosophy at an assembly last semester? Maybe.

But for Michael and Janet this was another dangerous trek into the real world to try and observe Eleanor to see if her stint in a different high school might have given her a better chance in the afterlife.

"So. What do you think, Janet?" he asked in a sotto voice. "Do you think we did a good thing?"

At the appropriate moment, there was Pomp and Circumstance, because even this place followed some normal traditions. It was time for the soon-to-be-graduates to make the last adjustments to their blue and gold robes, and get to walking to their seats!

Weirdly this might be the only day ever where Sabine ended up wearing the same thing as everyone else. She had painted her symbol on the top of her cap, though, so there.

Fer someone always going on and on about tradition, Wayne felt a bit uncomfortable of all the pomp and circumstances involved in gettin' to the Pomp and Circumstance, and it had nothing to do with any disappointment at there not being plaid-patterned robes.

He was mostly focusing on not trying to fuss too much with his hat.

Lana had, as she'd promised/threatened Sabine, had her robes altered and armour added so they were now typical Sith robes. If this went as most graduations here, she would probably appreciate the armour.

She was a bit sad her time here was close to an end, even if she was looking forward to going back home soon, too.

Once the speeches were over, Zoe came back up to the podium, and called each graduate's name to give them their diploma.

As the last diploma was handed out, there was a moment of quiet as those who had attended one of these ceremonies before waited to see what would happen.

Then, when Zoe got up to usher everyone away, an odd sound filled the air as it began to rain ping-pong balls all over the lawn. Smaller balls pelted some of the audience, bouncing away harmlessly, but the balls hitting the seniors were bigger... and had teeth. They rebounded off of the seniors and bounced back up as they hit the ground, chomping all the way.

Luckily, the seniors would find some totally appropriately-sized ping-pong paddles under their chairs--and hey, there were still some trashcans nearby from the post-awfulness cleanup! Just don't hit each other with the paddles, or hit your friends with the balls. That would be rude, right?

"YOU ALL SUCK!" Eleanor continued to shout and insult the balls in an effort to let the other seniors beat the crap out of them. "You call yourself balls? Get back to the pit on the sixth floor where you belong and small vaguely of vomit! YA BASIC!"

Once all the ping-pong balls were collected, there was a genuine moment of calm for people to gather, and possibly hand out band-aids.
