"So hey," Dante called. "Uh, sorry about the robot babies. I mean. We're here to check in with you guys about how things went with the robot babies."

Could someone please assuage his guilt complex about being complicit in handing them the robot babies? Dante looked downright uncomfortable leaning against the desk.

Kathy slanted him an amused look. "See, Dante?" she stage-whispered. "They have all managed to survive!"

It wasn't like they'd been given Skywalker's robot babies. That would have been cruel.

"But at what cost?" Dante muttered.

Kathy's look was going to get even more pointed. "I suppose we should let them tell us, hmm?" she suggested. "So class. How was your week?"

Wayne was more than happy to hand over his robot baby, and he hoped to do it with as little commentary as possible.

Did Wayne essentially care for his baby the same way he raised his puppers on the farm?

Not quite.

Wayne actually liked the puppers.

But the process between raising babies and raising puppers was about the same, right?

Good enough!

And good riddance!

"And how was it?" Dante asked, before Wayne managed to walk away.

"I don't..." Now how exactly did he put this?

"I don't much care fer kids," said Wayne.

Because there really was only the one way to put it.

Illyana's week was bad enough that she showed up for class with her horns showing, and carrying the baby in a modified picnic basket that she was carrying with her tail. (Look, it was the closest thing she'd found to successful rocking it to sleep!) No hooves or claws, and her eyes were mostly normal, the only red from your basic sleep deprevation... obviously too exhausted to Give A Shit to maintain one physical form over another, and thus was wearing the shape that felt most natural to her; Partially Demonic.

It was probably even-odds if she'd tried to bite it or not this week.

"Take it before I start trying to decide if it has a soul, and thus would make an interesting sacrifice," she muttered, putting her head down on her desk. "I don't. Do. Babies."

"Demons big on sacrifices where you come from?" Dante asked, reaching for the picnic basket.

"The Dark Gods are more interested in the corruption and sacrifice of souls than generic bloodshed, but I don't like them very much, so it might be funny to sacrifice something with a false-soul to see if it pisses them off," she admitted, lifting it towards him. Once he'd had hold of the handle, she released it with her tail, using it to pull up the blanket and tuck the baby in better before he stepped out of range. "I'm not above petty revenge, even if it would be a terrible idea."

"Demons in general? Eh, they're more into general chaos, violence, or pain than anything sacrifice-y."

And Illyana tended to be more of a 'physical violence' girl over sacrifices any day.

"Sounds kind of like home," Dante said merrily. "Though there were some baby eaters back in the day."

He'd been at an orphanage with them. But that was years ago, so you could laugh about it.

"S'ym used to threaten to eat me when I was little," 'Yana admitted, yawning. "Though that was more because he thought it would be fun than for any sacrifice reasons."

She propped her head up to squint at Dante, like she was looking past him to see something else. "You from a hell dimension or something?"

"Close," Dante said, unperturbed, as he brought the basket with the baby in to his chest. "Mom was an angel, dad was a demon."

"Huh. That's...cool? I mean, as cool as anything with demons gets, for a sliding scale." Because, well. Demons.

"Ex-demon-apprentice," she said by way of explanation, sitting up enough to wrap her hair around the horns into cute little cones, so it wouldn't be as weird for the other students. "Never go to Limbo. Even for a hell dimension it sucks."

"Spent most of my childhood dippin' in and out of that," Dante said. Let the sclera of his eyes flash a brief red, just to keep things fair in the showing he wasn't talking out of his ass department. "Real party, yeah."

"Is there a club?" she asked, smirking slightly. "'I got raised by demons in Limbo, and all I got was issues with authority?'"

The idea that anyone would lie about something like that was totally alien to Illyana. Heck, she still hadn't caught onto the fact that Troy from Hero class last term didn't really have powers.

Besides, now that she knew what she was looking for, she could 'see' that thread of demonic power entwined with his soul's energy. 'Yana usually made it a point to not look at people's auras with her magical/demonic senses 'on,' because that was rude, but she figured permission had been implied when he mentioned baby-eating.

"There isn't, but now there's two of us, there kinda should be," Dante said merrily.

He didn't mind anyone looking. Since his powers had unlocked, he'd kind of gotten used to people staring right into his big font of demon mojo.

Look, Strange may have failed in teaching Illyana 'people skills,' but she HAD had basic magical ettiquite drilled into her head. The state of someone else's soul or power was Not Your Business unless they made it your business.

Besides, given that half her soul (and all her magic) now screamed 'demon' to anyone who knew how to read it, she wasn't exactly in a place to judge other people.

"Worst club ever," 'Yana agreed, offering him a fist-bump. "At least you got cool eyes out of it, and my horns are cute."

"I got a few more ugly forms out of it too," Dante said, happily taking that fistbump. "Great trick at parties. I mean, your horns are fucking cool."

"You can control it?" Now you really had her interest, Dante. "Mine is tied to my emotions, mostly."

"So...my, um, extreme isn't party-trick suitable. Yet."

"It's called a Devil Trigger," Dante offered. "I get in the groove enough, I can just flick a switch."

Beat.

"Not gonna do it here, though. I hear students like gravity."

"Gravity is for suckers." Illyana, no. "--but it's for a totally different party than the middle of class."

"Though floating babies would be hilarious." WHAT? It wasn't like they were going to fail her from the assignment now. There weren't even any chew-marks on the thing!

Dante snorted. "At least these things would probably be fine," he said, poking the baby in the basket. "Don't know where Kat ordered them, but..."

They're here for you. Allegedly.

God, Dante was so glad this was over.

And leaning against the desk, as per usual.
