"Let's talk about shame," Anakin said, settling back against his desk. "For you, personally, what actions make you feel that gut-clench of knowing you've done something wrong? And more importantly, how does your society check inappropriate social behavior through use of shame, and what happens when someone refuses to feel shame?"

Anakin had not been watching election results and listening to his wife yell at her computer for almost a week, why would you think that?

"Liam gave me his world's version of a lightsaber for my birthday," she said earnestly. "But, like, I don't know how to use a sword........."

She was much better with a bookbelt.

"I definitely don't want that," she said, making a face. "Though I like to think I know enough about weapons to avoid that sort of mistake!!!!!!!!!"

"True," she admitted. "But if I was getting overpowered with a sword, then out would be coming my magic and my bookbelt????????"

"Bookbelt?" Anakin repeated, squinting. "I don't know that weapon."

"I just got it sharpened at the smithery on my world," she said brightly, unlooping her bookbelt from her waist and setting it on the desk.

It... was a bunch of hardback romance novels tightly tied with a belt, Anakin.

But it had been sharpened! Nina's universe worked in strange and mysterious ways!

"So pretty much just like books," Anakin said. "Never tell Rory they can be made into a weapon. She'll rewrite history and tell me that's why she always had fifteen in her backpack in high school."

She didn't like admitting it, but if he was going to train her then he needed to know that she, ah, was a lot stronger than she looked.
