The Library is Open (04/06)

Rory staggered in and opened the library during second period, nursing her second cup of coffee and looking very much the worse for wear.

[Goin' up early like whoa so I can sleep in and not worry about it. Rory'll be available for interaction around 1 EST.]

Angela managed most of a smile for the librarian and Rory. She might have had a LOT of coffee. "Hi!"

Rory tried for a smile.

Ah, failure.

"Hey."

Angela blinked, unsure if Rory looked unhappy, or just undercaffeinated.

"Was today the class with Obi-Wan, or is that next week?"

Rory wrote something down and passed the paper over to Angela.

Broke up.

That was actually bad enough news to make Angela quit obsessing about herself for the moment.

I'm sorry.

For good, or for now? Maybe it was just a fight.

Rory shook her head and circled the For good, underlining it.

Angela shook her head as she scribbled something down. No. Not allowed.

Rory nodded.

Yeah. Had a fight. Right thing to do. And it's been two days. It's over.

I'm so sorry. What happened?

And this month sucks. Let's skip the rest of April.

May=graduation, though.

Rory drew a sad face.

It's just the whole Obi-Wan thing. We both said stuff we didn't mean. I think he blames me for the whole thing. As he should.

But May also = summer. Angela drew a smiley face before continuing the note. But, okay, maybe we shouldn't skip this month. My birthday's in it. It just needs to quit sucking.

She chewed briefly on her pen. Sounds bad. I REALLY doubt it's all your fault, though.

Rory shook her head.

No, it is. I knew better. I should've stopped him.

Angela scrunched up her face.

Knew better than what? Stopped him from what? She gaged Rory's expression before adding one more sentence.

Are you going to be okay?

Knew he wasn't supposed to. Rory wrote as an explanation.

She frowned at Angela's last question.

Eventually.

So did he, Angela wrote angrily. And he's the one who was raised with it.

Stupid Jedi rules.

But I'm so sorry.

Rory shrugged. I'll live. It's just hard now.

How are you doing sans Marty?

Angela considered this, then circled where Rory had written, I'll live. It's just hard now.

She added, Like that. He sent me flowers yesterday, so I guess he must be safe? But he hasn't answered my emails.

I'm having a really hard time sleeping. Keep dreaming that he's gone for good.

Rory nodded.

Been there. But if he's sending you flowers, at least you know he's still out there. He probably can't answer emails - those are easy to track, you know?

We have Webmail accounts to make it a little harder, but it's probably a bad idea for him to send anything that would let them track him.

I guess I have to do what Zero suggested, cautious optimism. IT'S HARD.

It really, really is. But he's fine. He'll be back. You KNOW he will. He wouldn't say he'd come back if he couldn't, right?

I hope. But he might just not have wanted to worry me, though. She screwed up her face. I feel so selfish, talking about this to you. At least I know Marty's on earth.

Looking at the note for a second, she scratched out ~~know~~ and wrote am pretty certain.

Rory quirked half her mouth up a smile.

Doesn't make it easier, though, right?

Angela's half-smile matched Rory's.

God no. She thought for a moment, then wrote again. I'm not sure this could be easy, or that it should. Even if he was in Disneyworld, or something, and I knew the exact moment he was coming back, I would miss him. He's just this part of me, now. You know?

Rory bit her lip, taking a deep breath and willing the burning in her throat to go away.

I know.

Angela buried her face in her hands, dropping the pen. "I'm sorry, Rory. I wish I was better at stuff like this."

Reluctantly, she picked up the pen again. It will be okay. Somehow.
