Wayne regarded Jaye with thinly veiled disgust, though whether it was for the ham sandwich or her inability to pick her own age was anyone's guess.

"Seventeen," he informed her, all the same.

Wayne winced a little, turning his head away from Jaye, unable to keep eye contact.

"Yes," he murmured, disconsolate at the suggestion that he might not be that, "really. What's the point in makin' something like that up?"

Look, Wayne didn't know what that cow creamer had done, but he was feeling like it didn't deserve to be yelled at like that.

Just like the farm stand behind him didn't deserve to be burned to the ground, either.

So needless to say, both of these events occurring simultaneously left him a little put out and grjmbling.
