"Good morning, everyone!" Anakin called through his bullhorn. "Welcome to another fun-filled team-building activity!"

Is everyone excited? No? Ahhh, you're learning.

There were laundry baskets out, along with scooters, and roughly 3,000 plastic balls in the center of the blacktop ~~that totally existed, shhh~~.

"Today we're playing Hungry, Hungry Hippos," Anakin announced. "Without actual hippos."

Which needed to be pointed out around here. "Because they are mean and not into team sports."

Because he'd called a few zoos to find out.

"We'll have three teams today, of six members each. One member each round will lay stomach down, clutching the laundry basket. The second team member will use their legs to push them into the balls at the center of the arena."

Blacktop. Whatever.

"The team with the most number of balls at the end of six rounds win."

"You are now, Dan-Oh." No, Duke couldn't read minds or the narrative (hence it being spelled wrong). He'd just thrown a random "oh" in to fuck with Danny's name. "Skywalker doesn't really care about people's plans."

Danny's head jerked back like he'd gotten smacked and he glared at Duke suspiciously. "Don't you have a puppet to kiss?"

Huh. He'd apparently hit a nerve. Duke actually felt kind of bad about that.

"He does look like a puppet, doesn't he," he said instead of, you know, apologizing or anything silly like that. "Don't worry, if I spot any gremlins, I'll be sure to direct them at you."

An apology would imply he knew what threw Danny so much about that! And that way lay madness.

"Gee, thanks," Danny replied dryly, once it was becoming clear that had just been a weird fluke thing and he could relax a little on that front. "You're all heart."

"I'm a very caring guy. Big on sharing." Duke grinned. "I refuse to keep all the puppet-love to myself."

"You know what? I just remembered that I need to go jump off a cliff, so," he said, clapping Duke on the shoulder. "He's all yours, babe."

"Plenty of cliffs in the preserve," Duke said, dodging away from the shoulder-clapping. "Might land on the sea monster, though. Don't recommend it."

"Is it really worse than this?"

Duke looked around at the scooters and the beach balls and the laundry baskets.

". . . Yeah, I'll take a silly game over being eaten by a sea monster. But, you know, that's just me. You do you, Detective."

You underestimated his level of annoyance at this game, Duke.

"Then you can take my turns," Danny replied. "Thanks, buddy."

"Not a chance in hell," Duke said cheerfully, reaching over to give Danny a little shove in the direction of the blacktop. "You're going to enjoy the full weight of Skywalker's sadism, and I'm really hoping I won't be too busy being pushed around on a scooter to watch."

"I still have footage of you thinking you were a pig," Danny warned, batting at his hand as an afterthought. Because he was distressingly used to getting herded places by idiots.

"How nice for you." Duke was definitely going to find a way to track that footage down and delete it. Eventually. "Go put your free shirt on so my team can wipe the floor with your team's asses."
