Nina hesitated.

"Like, you haven't tried everything," she said, figuring that he had to know, at this point, that she wasn't stupid. "You've checked the woods and your friends have helped, from what radio has said. You've gone to the cops. But, like, Fandom's got a lot of options. Have you checked with one of the telepaths? Bus Dean and Iris of Pick Your Poison are the two I know of off the top of my head. Maybe they noticed something. Have you checked Portalocity's records for all authorized and unauthorized portals in the last few weeks?"

She didn't know if it would help, given that the island was a huge question mark at the best of times, but Nina was very good at her job and... these were options.

"You could check with Nell or Jules," she continued. "Like, actually, Jules might be better, but I'm not sure how their powers work-----they're both very connected to plants. Maybe the plants in the preserve know something and you just need someone who can talk to them."

Duke frowned, shoulders straightening a little as she spoke.

"There are really folks here who can talk to trees?" He had no real reason to doubt that, no. "Or hey. Maybe someone can interrogate an alot."

He didn't sound nearly as skeptical about that as he might have wanted to.
