BWI Airport Portalocity Lounge- Saturday morning

It was't so much that Alexis wanted to go back to school, it was just that her options to bounce around a bit had dried up for the moment, and she should probably at least check this place out? She hadn't gotten to see much of it aside from the volcano and all, and very little of the area outside, so why not hang out for a while?

She'd amassed a lot of bags around her: on the floor, the seats next to her. A throne of luggage, of sorts. She was already a little bored waiting, wondering who else would show up, and how much glitter had gone into the giant "FANDOM HIGH" sign that was hanging.

...and how that glitter had already gotten on her designer luggage, which she was now trying to pick off with an, "Ew."

Julius's stomach rumbled, reminding him that he hadn't eaten since before he'd settled in for last night's raid. "Food would be great," he asked, suddenly acutely aware of how old and dingy his clothing looked and complete lack of luggage. "I mean, umm, I can pay," he offered. "Or get something - is there a kiosk? I don't want to be a bother..."

"No, no!" she protested, even she she opened her bag. "I have a few sandwiches to spare!"

Elli's parents had given her more than enough food for the journey.

"Here," she said, offering him two sandwiches, neatly wrapped. "They're roast beef. I hope you don't mind that?"

"Not at all," Julius assured her, before devouring the first one in a few neat bites. "Delicious! Thank you so much. This bread is really thick and tangy, so good."

He was ravenous, but made himself eat the second one more slowly. Hopefully it would make up for his otherwise ruffian appearance.

"...You were saying something about a place called Fandom?"

It certainly helped, though a person couldn't help being on hard times, the way he so obviously was!

"Thank you! The bread's homemade," she explained, and it hadn't been made by her. Which was... good for all involved, really, because otherwise he wouldn't be feeling very well right about now.

'Bad at cooking' was an understatement.

"But, yes," she said, still concerned that he was dreadfully lost. "This is the waiting area for the shuttle that will take us to Fandom Island, where most of us will be students at the high school. It's a boarding school for people from all over."

He couldn't even argue with that. His mother might have a hoard of gemstones and gold to lounge on, but he was on the other side of the country, with less than a hundred dollars to his name and only the clothes on his back for possessions.

"This is the first time I'm hearing about any of this," he admitted. "The last fifteen hours or so have been kind of hectic."

Understatement.

"Are you lost?" Elli asked. "Is there anyone--should we contact security? Perhaps you took a wrong flight..."

"My flight was a direct one," Julius said. "I thiiiink..." he checked Bob's message again, just to make sure it hadn't changed.

It hadn't.

"I have a feeling I'm supposed to be here," he admitted. "Um. My brother said something about not passing up educational opportunities. I think this is what he meant?"

In his very weird Bob-fashion.

"Boarding school would probably count as an educational opportunity," she teased him, lightly. "Though you don't have any luggage..."

"At this point, I think this whole thing has been an educational opportunity," he said, offering her a tentative smile, hand gesturing to take in her, Alexis, Freya, the airport at large...

"Oh. I'm Julius, by the way. Julius, ahh. Quetz."

Did it take him maybe a heartbeat longer than it should have to remember his last name? Maaaybe.

"By the Goddess, I completely forgot!" she said, abashed. "I'm so sorry! It's wonderful to meet you, Julius. I'm Elli."

Just Elli.

"Hey, you fed me," Julius said with another small smile, like he was exercising muscles that didn't get used much. "I think you're still well in the lead as far as manners go."

"If it's a competition, though, we're both losing," she said, amused. "My grandmother would be disappointed in me!"

"So would my mother," Julius said wryly, his smile fading.

For vastly different reasons, though. His mother felt that being polite to humans was both pointless and also a kind of aberrant behavior.

Oh. Well, she hadn't meant to have him frown...

"Your mother?" she said. "Is everything okay? Did I say something wrong?"

"Oh! No! Not at all!" Julius said, quickly shaking his head. "You're fine. Absolutely fine. I just, uh. Mother and I...didn't part on the best terms. Is all."

Which was a really nice way of saying, 'She sealed his true form away then kicked him out and sent him into a city that hunted their kind to die.'

That was an impressively nice way of saying that.

"Oh, I'm sorry," she said, all understanding sympathy. "It's terrible to fight with family, isn't it?"

Julius was very nice! It was his besetting sin if you asked his family.

"Very," Julius said fervently. He was lucky that fighting with most of his family wasn't lethal - Bethesda kept the privilege of murder for herself and Chelsea, her enforcer among the clutches - but you'd be surprised what a dragon could live through. "I'm not a big fan of fighting much at all, really."

Another besetting sin.

"Neither am I." Though, admittedly, no one ever expected her to either. "In fact, I'm planning to study medicine and become a nurse."

"Really? My sister Jessica is planning to go to school to be a doctor," Julius said. "And I, uhhh, play a healer in my favorite video game. Best healer in the guild."

Which, when stacked against 'actual concrete plans to go to school for medical training' was actually rather pathetic, yes.

Just a little, though Elli was distracted by...

"What's a video game?" she asked.

It was like everyone in this group was doing their best to make him flail. "Uhh, you know. Games you play on a computer or console?" he said, aware that was a terrible explanation, but how did you explain video games?

"A computer?" Elli frowned a little, honestly confused. "The Doctor has one, but it's only for work...?"

They could play games?

"I mean, technically you can play them on any device with enough processing power," Julius admitted. "I haven't had a chance to download any onto my phone yet, but you can play games on those, too."

"There's only one phone in my entire town," she admitted, completely baffled by this. "And I don't think you can play games on it..."

Given that it was a rotary phone... then no. No, you couldn't.

"One phone for the entire town?"

Much like Alexis, Julius was stumped. It was possible there were more phones than people in Heartstriker Mountain.

There were definitely more phones than humans.
