How To Be Civilized, Friday, Period 3
"This week we're going to have an easy class," Seivarden said, smiling at the students. "This might seem like a silly thing, but as I know most people on the island have a problem with it, I felt it needed to be adressed."
She gestured at a table where food has been arranged, a selection similar to what you would find at a Fandom picnic. Mainly finger food.
"Never, ever, eat food with bare hands. Not even with a knife and fork of course, but definitely not finger food. There's cutlery available, although of course you can eat pastries with your hands, but don't stain your gloves like a five year old."
Looking around the classroom, Seivarden continued: "Well, that should be easy enough. And of course there's tea for you all."

Eat food
Re: Eat food
Nina had salad, a sandwich, and some popcorn.
And, like, eating popcorn with a spoon was actually neater than eating it with her hands anyway, so this wasn't proving much of a challenge for her, even if she did feel silly eating a sandwich with cutlery.
And was eyeing the chips speculatively.
Like, they were too big for a spoon. Stabbing them with a fork would result in chip-bits everywhere, and a knife would result in the same thing.
Not eating them was probably the more civilized thing to do and yet…

Re: Eat food
It was so much tidier!
Re: Eat food
She might have a ridiculous taste in gloves and make silly radio broadcasts, but at least she had some potential.
Re: Eat food
Like, around all her nonsense.
"Out of, like, curiosity," Nina said, "what utensil would you use to eat chips??????????????"

Re: Eat food
They would not remain questionably-stained for long, though, because Mae went right for the drippiest, spilliest, stainingest foods she could find.
". . . Now everything tastes kind of like lint."
Re: Eat food
"Perhaps try something made of plastic next time."
No, she wasn't being serious.
Re: Eat food
“Plastic’s bad for the planet.”
This would not stop her when she had to find hand coverings at the last minute next week.

"I mean," Mae said. "You are living here."

"How do you know? Anything could happen at any moment."

Re: Eat food
"The point of this class is stupid," Mae said. "What do you think fingers are even for?"
Re: Eat food
She was going to eat a sandwich. With her (gloved, alas) hands, because that was how you ate a sandwich.
And she had a blue-milk latte with her.
