Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, Saturday, All Day

However weather magic worked around here on any given day, the weather for the welcome picnic wasn't all that bad. It was a little chilly outside (50F/10C), but not as awful as January could be, and the bonfire in the middle of the lawn was providing a nice amount of warmth. No one noticed who specifically put the cute presents around it, but the gifts looked harmless and ignoring non-dangerous weird things was just how a lot of people coped with living here, okay?

The food was ready, the tables and chairs had been spread across the lawn, and everything was ready to welcome a new batch of folks to the island!

Seivarden did her best to conceal that this made her worried. If Rosa decided to ask her, she felt she had right to be worried.

"Why?"

She took a sip from the tea she had brought.

"I need to pawn my Teaching Buddy," ugh, seriously, they couldn't have given it a stupider name, could they? "off on her. I think the moose screwed up and gave me one instead of her, because she's a nerd and loves that stuff. And she's almost always one of the first ones here for these things, because she knows they've got meat on sticks."

And there were far too many of them still there for Amaya to have been there.

There was, of course, the undeniable evidence that she hadn't been answering her texts, either, and she always answered her texts, but she figured she'd at least get some perspective on Amaya's BFF over here before she went and made a beeline for the forge.

So help her, if Amaya went and got herself kidnapped by something again...She was going to have to put a tracker on that woman.

"I saw her yesterday," Seivarden said. She pulled her phone out of her pocket and dialled Amaya's number.

"Aren't you supposed to be the detective?"

She immediately regretted that comment.

Was it because of the instant glare in Rosa's eyes after she said it?

"Yeah," Rosa said. "I am. And one of the perks of the job is having to talk to complete assholes to figure shit out. You honestly don't think I tried to call her?"

But there was a small thread of worry in here that Amaya would pick up, if it was Seivarden calling instead of her, but, obviously, that was a stupid thought and she was dumb for even thinking it.

There was no answer. The call went to voicemail.

It was easily the worst part of her day so far, which didn't mean all that much when Rosa had the feeling that was only because the day was still young.

"See?" Rosa couldn't quite keep a small note of triumph out of her voice, though it still meant that Amaya had almost definitely gotten herself into something again. "Nothing."

She frowned a moment, shook her head.

"That's it," she decided, "I'm going to the shop."

This Jaskier person would just have to fend for themselves.

...which was sort of a given, with Rosa as a Buddy, regardless of any blacksmith kidnappings, but now it was especially true.

She didn't think Rosa would. It was mostly pointing out that Seivarden did care.

Oh, what? Now, all of a sudden, she actually cared?

"Yeah," Rosa muttered, after a hardened, almost suspicious narrowing of her eyes before she just turned to leave, "sure."
