Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, Saturday, All Day

However weather magic worked around here on any given day, the weather for the welcome picnic wasn't all that bad. It was a little chilly outside (50F/10C), but not as awful as January could be, and the bonfire in the middle of the lawn was providing a nice amount of warmth. No one noticed who specifically put the cute presents around it, but the gifts looked harmless and ignoring non-dangerous weird things was just how a lot of people coped with living here, okay?

The food was ready, the tables and chairs had been spread across the lawn, and everything was ready to welcome a new batch of folks to the island!

"Nothing but jello-covered space rubble and stormtrooper parts now," said Summer, with a shrug and a small smile that was not nearly sheepish enough. "It's a real shame, too." Now a regretful sigh seemed to sneak in and she shook her head. "That place was doing, like, really well, Rey, like, stupid good."

Summer's smile was faint but appreciative. "Yeah," she said. "It had to be done. But you better believe, if I was going down, I was going to take as many of those bastards down with me as I could. But we got a lot out of it, and that's the important part. Weapons, information, time..."

She bit her lower lip a moment, fighting down the worry she wasn't allowing herself to have that, despite giving up almost everything, it still hadn't been enough.

She shook her head again and returned her focus to Rey.

"But what about you?" she asked. "How've you been? How's it been out here?"

"I can't say it's been quiet," Rey said, because there'd been a lot of things going on, and she was pretty sure there was about to be another one but couldn't say for sure. "But it's been okay. I've kept really busy."

"Busy's good," said Summer, who had literally flown in just that morning and was already talking about three jobs, not to mention radio, which she had not been pulled into quite yet. But as soon as Leroy got wind that she was back, it was going to be unavoidable. "What've you been up to?"

"Mostly training. With Master Skywalker on Fridays, and yoga with Duke Tuesdays. I've been home a few times to help the Resistance," she said, and was it ever weird to drop that in casually. "And then I come back and do more training on my own."

"How's everything going there?" Summer asked, lowering her voice out of habit and instinct now rather than any sort of actual need for secrecy. "With the Resistance?"

Look, it was practically her adopted war version 2.0, so she couldn't help feeling a little invested in it, beyond just the fact that Rey was involved.

And it did cross her mind that she more than likely wasn't actually banned from Rey's dimension of that universe like she had hers.

"We're rebuilding," Rey said, voice at a normal volume. "We've managed to get some ships and some people, and we're all scattered trying to build up forces that way. I've been here unless someone calls me, and then I'll head off for supply runs or to shuttle people around to a new base of operations."

Which was what happened when she didn't know Poe well enough to trust him with her adopted ship.

"That sounds good," Summer noted, with a smile, an approving nod. "And, hey, you know? If you need help? You know I'd love to. I might be likely to get shot on sight back in Kanan and Hera's timeline now," was she proud of that? Yes. Should she be? ...debateable, "but yours should be fine, right?"

Because she's literally just landed back in Fandom, and already, she was getting a little itchy, but, then again, she might just need to have a few moment to stop and take a breath before seh could sort of mellow out about it.

Jumping from one fire straight into the next sort of just ran in her blood, though.

"Thanks, Summer," Rey said with a smile. "We need all the help we can get, it's just a matter of figuring out how to apply it. We don't even have a base yet that we'll use for more than a month or so."

"Smart," Summer said. "Keep moving, harder to track down, but that's got to be a logistical nightmare. But, yeah, seriously, I mean, hell, I've even got a ship if you need it. Just say the word, you know I've got your back, Rey."
