Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, Saturday, All Day

However weather magic worked around here on any given day, the weather for the welcome picnic wasn't all that bad. It was a little chilly outside (50F/10C), but not as awful as January could be, and the bonfire in the middle of the lawn was providing a nice amount of warmth. No one noticed who specifically put the cute presents around it, but the gifts looked harmless and ignoring non-dangerous weird things was just how a lot of people coped with living here, okay?

The food was ready, the tables and chairs had been spread across the lawn, and everything was ready to welcome a new batch of folks to the island!

This was Tip's last chance to get a new little sibling, so of course she'd signed up. And she was all set to welcome MOMO. . . . If they ever got here.

She saw Sabine waiting too and headed over. "Do you know if the bus has gotten in yet?"

"Haven't seen it yet," Sabine answered, frowning. "I'm starting to think it broke down on the way here or something."

"If they've been using the same bus the whole time it wouldn't shock me by now," Sabine said with a shrug. "I'm also not sure how long we're supposed to wait around."

"I can always come up with something else to do," Sabine said with a little smile, and more seriously said, "Mostly I'm getting bored of walking around with a sign."

Sabine nodded. "Sorry it's not off to a better start. Is it weird, it being your last one?"

"It is so weird." Tip shook her head. "I've been here kind of forever, and I feel like I'm really ready to graduate. But -- I'm going to be an adult. I kind of never thought I'd actually get there."

"You've still got a while to adjust," Sabine said. "Or celebrate it, if it's a good thing."

The adult thing seemed to be a bigger deal here than it'd probably ever be for her personally.

Tip hadn’t met many useful adults before coming to Fandom. “True. And it’s not like I have to decide the rest of life by graduation, right?”

Tip smiled, thinking about that trip. "We haven't done a good road trip since I was, like, twelve. Does flying to Jupiter count as a road trip? We were in a car. . . ."

"Having never been on a road trip, I think that sounds totally logical to me," Sabine decided. Same principle!

"I've gotten a little of that," Sabine said, but that was the sort of thing she was trying not to think about these days. "Where would you be going on this one?"
