Ethics, November 6, 2019

Today's ethics class was held in the Danger Shop today, with Anakin looking a bit smug.

Always a bad sign.

"We've talked about big ethical issues," Anakin said, "but the general standard of 'being a good person/sentient being' is different in different places, but 'that person/sentient being is behaving like a jerk' is an ethical judgment we all make at least five times a day. More if someone is holding up the line at the coffee shop. Today you'll have three scenarios to navigate. Your goal is to avoid a violent confrontation while still stopping unacceptable--if you find it unacceptable--behavior."

He smiled. "This will be fun."

Probably not for the students, but details.

Although Tisarwat didn't exactly have a whole lot of context for the comments the person in front of her was making, there was no mistaking a tone, and a slight tension building in the air that gave her more than just a faint flashback of dealing with the lines and crowds protesting back at Atheok Station, which seemed ages ago, but, really, she realized, wasn't even half a year ago.

So she did what she did then, when it was starting to feel like the gathered masses were getting restless and escalating toward the violence and disruption they were hoping to avoid. By distracting them, with as much politeness and charm as she could manage, to get their mind off the thing bothering them and, in this case, hopefully, the extended wait and their utter lack of patience.

"Excuse me," she ventured, leaning in a little, lifting a hand to catch his attention, "sorry to bother you, but, while we were waiting, I couldn't help but notice your shoes. They're so interesting! Where did you get them?"
