Ethics, November 6, 2019

Today's ethics class was held in the Danger Shop today, with Anakin looking a bit smug.

Always a bad sign.

"We've talked about big ethical issues," Anakin said, "but the general standard of 'being a good person/sentient being' is different in different places, but 'that person/sentient being is behaving like a jerk' is an ethical judgment we all make at least five times a day. More if someone is holding up the line at the coffee shop. Today you'll have three scenarios to navigate. Your goal is to avoid a violent confrontation while still stopping unacceptable--if you find it unacceptable--behavior."

He smiled. "This will be fun."

Probably not for the students, but details.

Although Tisarwat didn't exactly have a whole lot of context for the comments the person in front of her was making, there was no mistaking a tone, and a slight tension building in the air that gave her more than just a faint flashback of dealing with the lines and crowds protesting back at Atheok Station, which seemed ages ago, but, really, she realized, wasn't even half a year ago.

So she did what she did then, when it was starting to feel like the gathered masses were getting restless and escalating toward the violence and disruption they were hoping to avoid. By distracting them, with as much politeness and charm as she could manage, to get their mind off the thing bothering them and, in this case, hopefully, the extended wait and their utter lack of patience.

"Excuse me," she ventured, leaning in a little, lifting a hand to catch his attention, "sorry to bother you, but, while we were waiting, I couldn't help but notice your shoes. They're so interesting! Where did you get them?"

Okuyasu raised his hand slightly, forcing himself to stop because as much as he wants to just erase the dude, that would technically be murder.

He instead looked around, and then just casually punched the guy in the back of the head as hard as he could with The Hand. Meaning most folks didn't even see a thing, unless they could see Stands. And with that, Okuyasu put his hands in his pockets and started innocently whistling.

Eleanor waited approximately ten seconds before getting tired of it all.

"Fork this."

Pulling out her phone, she used an app to have coffee delivered to the dangershop. Just for herself. When the coffee arrived she sat in her chair and watched instragram videos at full volume.

Lana stepped forward and tapped the person in front of her on the shoulder. "Pardon me. You're being an arse and should leave. Now."

Then she smiled at the person in front of the line. "You'll have a black coffee."

Force suggestion was so useful.

She tipped the barista well.

Tisarwat in all her ranginess didn't take up too much space, it was true, but she definitely enjoyed her space and distraction wasn't going to do much for this situation. She took a moment to consider and then, carefully, subtly, undid one of the few pins she actually did wear on her uniform. And then, just as carefully, just as subtly, went to go affix it to the seat in a way that the pin part stuck out, toward the other passenger, in a way that any more encroachment on her territory would result in a steadily increasing prick from the pin digging into him.

She didn't know if it would be enough, though. And there she was, yet again, wishing she'd had more occasions to actually have more pins.

Okuyasu stared at the man with an intensity of anger.

"You want to keep that leg?" he said immediately as the leg encroached. "Because if it doesn't go back to your space I'm going to keep it."

He wasn't actually going to take his leg. But he would fight over this. Potentially quite literally.

Eleanor waited until the bathroom was open. As she got up she let out a very quiet-but-deadly fart. "Dude," she said to the large man and effectively blaming the noxious smell on him. "So gross."

And then she went in the bathroom and stayed there for the rest of the flight or whenever the flight attendant kicked her out.

Lana pushed his arm off her armrest with the Force and put up a barrier between their seats so he couldn't encroach any further. Then she sat back comfortably. Well, as comfortably as anybody could in these tiny seats.

Radchaai typically had a very soft spot for children and indulging them horribly, so Tisarwat couldn't help being amused at the headstrong little one, though she did have enough perception to understand that she was probably in the minority there. Still, the parent was doing their best to move them along, and, clearly, the bus driver was doing his best to do the same. Tisarwat waited until most people were already on the bus, but not everyone, pausing right in the threashold of the door, halfway on the street, halfway in the bus, before asking, "Excuse me, but when will the next shuttle to our destination be along?"

"...I can just pick them up and throw them on the bus if you want," Okuyasu said, keeping one foot in the bus and one foot out so the bus couldn't leave.

It wasn't a good solution but it was a solution.

Lana picked up the toddler, holding them a at arms' length so as not to get wet. "Shh," she told them, putting the Force behind it. She smiled at the father and waved him onto the bus.

Then she sat the toddler down right next to the person who had shoved him aside, making sure to get them wet.

"Hey drama teacher," Eleanor said after all the simulations were done. "This room. Is it available for student use? And would this work with, say, me and, say, Jason Statham and instead of a bunch of boring stuff, it could make, say, a room with a futon and a bunch of Red Bull?"

"That depends on your definition of gross," Eleanor said cheerfully. "I'd say if you don't want to regret anything? Don't ask."
