Ethics, Wednesday, September 4, 2019 [1st period]

Anakin swept into the classroom precisely on time, making sure the door slammed shut behind him thanks to a little nudge from the Force.

Hopefully everyone was already awake and not hungover because that noise was loud.

"I am Anakin Skywalker," he said, Jedi robes swirling overdramatically Snape-like around his ankles, "and this is Ethics class." His eyes roamed the room. "It's nice to see some familiar faces because this is a class that is always relevant. Ethics--your personal moral principles--can evolve over time, and something you find unthinkable one year might become routine in another. The point of this class is to examine where your own personal line is before you are faced with a dilemma in the real world, panic, and make a wrong choice."

Like, say, turn to the Dark Side and kill a whole lot of people. For decades. Theoretically.

"Traditionally, the first week of classes is devoted to introductions," Anakin concluded. "So today I want your name and the second worst decision you've made. The one that makes you wince internally when you are trying to go to sleep at night and your brain is playing the greatest hits of the stupd things you've done."

Delirium, who wasn't sure the class was ready but it's kind of in line for Anakin to let the world end, so maybe?

Eleanor would definitely have thought the cloak swirling was totally unnecessary.

However her main complaint at the moment was that Anakin was unnecessarily LOUD. A very soft audible groan escaped her as the door slammed and she now knew why everyone hates moral philosophy teachers.

"I'm Eleanor Shellstrop," she said holding her temples with her fingers because otherwise she would be pretty sure her brain would explode otherwise. "And other than this hangover right now, I would say my second biggest mistake was taking an ambien and then playing with a hamster. Unless you want to squick out the rest of the class I would not go into further details."

Please. For the love of god. Stop swishing that cloak so loudly.

"Okuyasu Nijimura," he introduced, looking a little uncomfortable. He wasn't one for quantifying his bad choices, even if he'd been doing well at making up for them.

"I don't know if I have any worst decisions," he said, thinking it over. "I've done some bad things that are bad, but they also directly led to me becoming better. But I guess if I have to say something, it's probably the time I tried to crush Koichi's head in the front gate of my house."

Okay, Sabine realized, maybe taking this class had been a bad idea.

There was a distinct shudder as Anakin's voice echoed through Eleanor's ears.

"Going to a pet store while tripping balls is not a good idea," she groaned. "Especially if you are a hamster."

Sabine had to go down a list, past the second worst mistake and maybe the third and fourth, because they were either too personal or something she never planned to talk about and those were in fact two different things.

"Sabine," she said, "and I'm going to go with not checking my phone enough to know I could have missed a certain week on the island."

That elicited a small snort of amusement from the hungover Eleanor. She immediately regretted making that noise.

"Um. No. There was no way to mend that hamster at all," Eleanor replied. "I don't even remember the store. Or the owner. Nope. No amending or mending. Just mendless."

Personal morals evolving over time?

Something you find unthinkable becoming routine?

Where your personal lines are before faced with a dilemma?

Well. This class was just about a few weeks too late, now, wasn't it?

But at least she could still be amused at the idea of the Dean who drove the colorful shuttle and smiled at her when talking about picnics coming in here as if a slammed door and a fluttering of robes could be enough to chase that impression away.
