Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

The weather was warm, the food smelled good, and there was a good chance the new folks were a little extra glittery. What else could go into a perfect day for the picnic?

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"I really like your hair," Keyleth told her, waving. "Did you get it cut, too?"

"Yeah, I needed the change," Sabine said, running her hand through said hair. "How're you doing, Keyleth?"

"Better," Keyleth said, tilting her head a bit from side to side to imply that it had been a little bit touch-and-go for a bit there. "Kind of excited about new classes and new students and everything. Did you have a good break week?"

"It got better," Sabine said slowly. "I'm kind of just looking forward to getting on with things after everything, you know?"

"Tell me about it." Keyleth sighed. "At least there'll be a lot of new stuff to keep us sort of distracted for a while. Do you know what you're taking yet this semester?"

"Terrain and You, Ethics, and Physical Education," Sabine said. "Decided to keep things light this time. What do you have?"

"I'm in all three of those, too!" Keyleth blurted out, looking kind of delighted about it. "I thought about taking a few more, but I should probably spend some time on my magic studies, too, so . . ."

"That's still learning, therefore it still counts," Sabine reasoned.

"Oh, definitely," agreed Keyleth. "It's just . . . kind of nice to have other things to learn about for a change, too."

She glanced around the lawn for a moment. "Meet any interesting new kids yet?"

She had to consult people who were less socially awkward than her about these things.

"I haven't really gotten up and met anyone yet except the little sibling," she said, ~~and that hadn't happened yet~~. "I'm assuming I'll meet people in common rooms."

She felt better about the last few weeks, but still wasn't quick to talk to people she might have to explain the summer to.

Which was absolutely fair.

"Best place to do it, right?" Keyleth asked, as if she was an expert on socializing. Wait, no one believed that, but still! It made logical sense! "I really should do a little more of that this semester. ~~When work isn't eating my soul.~~"

"It's hard sometimes, even in a dorm," Sabine shrugged. "And if you say something like that around Nina, she'll probably throw a party."

Aka, how Sabine and Nina became friends.

"I don't know if that would be a bad thing, necessarily," Keyleth said thoughtfully. "We could probably use one, to be honest."

"Then you should absolutely say this in front of Nina. Or really loudly in front of the squirrels."

What up, squirrels.

"Or I could mention it on Thursday on the air," Keyleth suggested. "If I don't before then."

"Hey, if you're got the platform..." Sabine reasoned.

"Oh, there isn't a platform, it's just a little room with microphones," Keyleth began, totally missing out on the contextual meaning of the word.
