What a beautiful, non-weird day at the park it was!

Shame Anakin was going to ruin that for everyone, huh?

"Right!" he yelled through the megaphone. "Today we have a new and fun team-building game where you will be in groups of four!"

How thrilling!

"You will get matching socks for greater teambuilding!"

...sure?

"And put your feet up in the air so I may rest a bucket on them!"

Anakin, what.

"The first team to remove all of the socks from their feet without dropping the contents of the bucket on themselves wins!"

Anakin, you totally made this game up, didn't you.

"Listen for your names! And no use of special powers to win."

Sorry, folks.

Sparkle was here mostly because it was a great distraction from the fact that his fish had gone missing.

His fish and all the fish in the tank he shared with Hernando, and he was mildly (seriously) distraught about this.

There had been a sobbing phone call to Leto about it.

Sparkle really, really loved his fish, okay? So this was his activity of choice to help him cope.

".... I'm keeping these socks."

They were amazing.

"Isn't the point that we don't?" Okuyasu said, completely missing the intent. "We're supposed to take them off."

"I'm gonna take them off," Sparkle clarified, "and then pocket them."

Because they were beautiful and brought him joy.

"Do... do you need socks? Are you homeless?" Okuyasu said, worried about the general well being of this man. "You can have mine too, if you want them."

".... Haven't been homeless in years, thanks," Sparkle replied, a little dryly. "I just like the socks."

"...you can still have mine, if you want them," Okuyasu said, just barely avoiding looking as embarrassed as he felt on the inside.

Sparkle sighed a little and hiked up his shoulders.

"Nah, it's fine. I've got my own."

... That said, he was seriously considering hitting up someone on Team Delicate Flower for a pair of theirs, too.

"You don't need to be self conscious about it," Okuyasu said, self conscious about having said something. "Like I know people who live on a powerline tower, so having had troubles in your past is something that just makes you a person who has worked harder."

This was getting away from him. "Now you can buy all your own socks."

Deep breath.

Slooooow exhale.

And Sparkle was going to... not give the teenage kid an epic stinkeye, no matter how much he wanted to.

"You have no idea," he sighed. "Look, kid, it's fine, leave it. This isn't actually a conversation I wanted to have because of socks today."

He was gonna go home after this and just sulk into a pint of ice cream.

"If you want to talk about it sometime, I can listen," Okuyasu said. "I been through a lot even if I haven't been that. So I can listen and you can say whatever and it's safe because that's what bros do."

He nodded solemnly.

"Also if you ever need a place to stay in Japan there's a lot of room in my house."

"... I don't even know your name," Sparkle pointed out, a little dubiously. "But really. It's fine. I have multiple places to crash now. Even in Japan. I'm pretty much set."

"Oh! I can fix that!" Okuyasu said, waving a hand. "Ohayo! I'm Okuyasu Nijimura!"

Hey, look, Okuyasu became Josuke's best friend just by declaring himself so. This worked for him.

Well, that did take care of that, then, didn't it? Sparkle blinked, and then shrugged.

"Hi, I'm Sparkle."

He was getting much better at not following that with a, 'No, really.'

Okuyasu just nodded. "Well it is nice to become your friend, Sparkle" he said. "Now we just have to figure out how to take off our socks without a bucket disaster."

Aaaand now Sparkle had a friend, he guessed. He squinted for a moment, and then let it slide. Kid couldn't be any older than, like, what, sixteen?

"One foot at a time," he replied, shrugging. "And with really steady feet besides."

They were so going to end up wearing that chowder.
