Summer Shenanigans, Wednesday, July 17, 2019

It was a beautiful, if hot and sticky (not dirty) (at all.) (for any of you.) (*rimshot*) day today, and so Anakin was making everyone meet in the park with a set up that would be familiar to those who'd been around for the shenanigans last year.

It's trebuchet building time, and this year the target was the park's pond-lake-thing, and not the crater that Bel had left in the park 11 years ago, though Anakin was sorely tempted.

Beaker stood next to him in his crash helmet as Anakin began bellowing through the megaphone. "There will be three teams of six," he began. "And as I have run out of regular t-shirts, I have provided beautiful patterned shirts."

No one would possibly think these were beautiful.

"Listen for your names, then brainstorm out a easy to assemble trebuchet and construct it! When you are finished, summon Beaker over and shoot him into the pond. The team close enough to dead center--" he pointed to a target floating on the water, "--wins."

Though no one won wearing these shirts. Force alone knew where he'd gotten one big enough for Sidon.

Team Kitty-Dolphin:
Amaya
Shuri
Summer
Nina
Regina
Vette

Team Pizza Cat:
Iris
Norman
Rosa
Mae
Tip
Sidon

Team Dinosaur Sloth (Yes. That's a romper. BONUS.):
Wayne
Ben
Prompto
Steve
Kanan
Pastor Carter

"Well, almost," Tip said. "If it were singular."

Admittedly, it was definitely a singular shirt design.

"... I guess we could tall it a staco cats shirt," Norman hedged. "But that isn't even actually a thing."

Alas.

"Not with that attitude." Tip pulled the shirt on over her tank top, and immediately regretted it. And not because of the design. "Nope, okay, it is way too hot out here for multiple layers."

"It's too bad they're t-shirts," Norman mused. "If they had longer sleeves, we could wear them as capes, instead. Or do that thing the cool people did in the nineties with a hoodie tied around the waist?"

He was not a cool kid.

He was, in fact, the crazy kid who was wearing a hoodie today as per the usual. Norman, no.

"The cool kids did that, huh?" Tip asked, amused. "That'd still be multiple layers, you know. Just around your shoulders or your waist." She pulled the shirt off again, considered it for a moment, and then began to wrap it around her hair like a scarf. It wasn't really the right texture, and it was still just as not-really-breathable on her head as it was on her body, but it would at least keep her curls from sticking to the back of her neck for the rest of the afternoon. "How are you not sweating to death? It's seriously gross out here."

"I'm totally sweating to death," Norman admitted, even while he shrugged his hoodie off and pulled the tacocat shirt on over the zombie t-shirt he'd (predictably) been wearing underneath. "But I don't tan, I burn."

And it was easier to just kind of bury himself in his hoodie if people looked his way.

... At least he wasn't team romper, over there.

Tip blinked at that. Having basically never had to worry about sun exposure from that perspective, it hadn't even occurred to her.

"Okay, but, like. There has to be a better option than a hoodie. Maybe get you a caftan or something."

Not many of those in Blithe Hollow, alas.

"You know, those big loose shirt-robe things from the Middle East?" Okay, so the humidity around here probably made desert wear not the most practical thing. But at least it would be built to be breezy.

"... Vaguely," Norman admitted, after a pause. And he totally wasn't going to add that he mostly knew them from Desert Zombies The Movie Part Four if he could help it. At all. Ever. "I wonder if they sell those things at the clothing store in town..."

Norman, honey, all you had to do was ask Sparkle and he'd be on it.

"I mean, even if they didn't, they could probably order some in. They're kind of fashionable right now."

For women.

Eh, after being stuck in drag in order to visit the Gerudo...

"Oh." Norman blinked. Fashion wasn't something that was even remotely on his radar, either. "Well, maybe I'll have to look into those, then."

"You can't see ghosts," Norman echoed, smiling crookedly. "I guess that means I'll have to take care of myself, huh?"

During this summer that kept actively trying to kill everyone, go figure it was the sun that stood the best chance of it.

"Not so much in Massachusetts," Norman replied, smiling crookedly. "Around here, though..."

A beat.

"A few folks who work with explosives, someone who claims to have invented fireworks, but I'm dubious..."

"How hard can it be, right?" A pause. "Worst case scenario, we just build a see-saw and have Sidon jump on the other end."

Tip looked from Sidon to Beaker consideringly.

". . . That would totally work."

"I think this is a plan," Tip said. "A good plan!"

For reference, her past plans have included firing bowling balls with a hammock for a slingshot, and weaponizing cats.

"Why make these things more complicated than they need to be, right? Especially in this weather?"

Said the boy who was now wearing his hoodie tied around his waist. Like the cool kids did.
