Even Anakin wasn't going to invite the entire town to stand outside in radiation and next to a bomb just for a day of competition (though yes, he had considered in for a hot minute). Today's event was being held in the community center and the flickering lights and general malaise just kind of added to what would be the world's weirdest fashion show.

Because, yes, there was a catwalk set up down the center, currently being sat upon by a small herd (committee? Murder?) of gremlins.

"Today we will reprise last year's highly popular gremlin fashion show," Anakin yelled into the completely unnecessary bullhorn.

It was only popular if you'd talked to Sparkle and Brooke, who'd been judges last year, but details. "You will be paired up!" Anakin continued. "You will have a variety of crafting supplies including macrame patterns, felt, rope, yarn, glue, staplers, and stun guns!"

Stun guns were craft supplies if you squinted? Maybe?

"You will have a half hour to create your masterpiece, another fifteen minutes to fit your model into it without getting bitten--" so good luck with that, "and then send him, her, or them down the runway for our guest judges to assess your work!"

He gestured at the chairs next to the runway. "Please welcome--" he frowned as Beaker handed him the list, "--Sparkle, Brooke, Keyleth, and..Camden."

This wasn't exactly what he meant when he'd asked Beaker to round up some catty judges. Oh well!

"Listen for your names!"

"Yeah, well," said Summer, "I've been places where wearing someone else's skin in all the rage, too, but you don't see me rushing out to blow my next paycheck on a skinsuit. But...I do see your point a little. What if...we decided to at least keep the dynamic sihloette that large shoulder pads would create, but we maybe made them out of something a little more interesting that just foam or padding or starched lines, you know? That could be cool."

"Spikes?" Lana suggested. "Or wings, or lattices." She'd seen all of the above in Sith outfits. "We don't have much in the way of things to use, though." She eyed the hemp rope dubiously.

"Ooooh, wings!" Summer gushed. "You could possibly do a great reveal moment with wings, while also striking fear into the hearts of the judges because, you have to admit, adding wings to gremlins is a terrifying prospect. Either way, eliciting a big emotion out of the judges is always a winning point, right? You've got to make them feel something...even if maybe that something is a startlingly sudden concern for the safety of their own personal dignity."

"There's felt," she offered, brightly, hopefully, "we can probably taper and layer those nicely to give a feathery effect, I bet."

"All right," Lana said. She picked up the felt Summer had indicated. She was still a little dubious, but determined. "Feathers. ...On spikes?" she offered. "Sort of a flutterplume look on a mynock frame?"

Normal Summer would have been gleeful over the fact that she actually know what those were, but this Summer was...just slightly different enough to make you twitch and scratch your head a little about it (it was a thing, couldn't be helped), so she had no idea what Lana was even talking about.

That didn't stop her, though, from giving a cautiously enthusiastic, "Yesss, exactly!" Because whatever they were, they sounded bad ass.

"Right." Lana found some scissors, looked at the skeptically, then piled up a stack of squares of felt on the ground and carefully trimmed them with her lightsaber.

"Feathers."
