Even Anakin wasn't going to invite the entire town to stand outside in radiation and next to a bomb just for a day of competition (though yes, he had considered in for a hot minute). Today's event was being held in the community center and the flickering lights and general malaise just kind of added to what would be the world's weirdest fashion show.

Because, yes, there was a catwalk set up down the center, currently being sat upon by a small herd (committee? Murder?) of gremlins.

"Today we will reprise last year's highly popular gremlin fashion show," Anakin yelled into the completely unnecessary bullhorn.

It was only popular if you'd talked to Sparkle and Brooke, who'd been judges last year, but details. "You will be paired up!" Anakin continued. "You will have a variety of crafting supplies including macrame patterns, felt, rope, yarn, glue, staplers, and stun guns!"

Stun guns were craft supplies if you squinted? Maybe?

"You will have a half hour to create your masterpiece, another fifteen minutes to fit your model into it without getting bitten--" so good luck with that, "and then send him, her, or them down the runway for our guest judges to assess your work!"

He gestured at the chairs next to the runway. "Please welcome--" he frowned as Beaker handed him the list, "--Sparkle, Brooke, Keyleth, and..Camden."

This wasn't exactly what he meant when he'd asked Beaker to round up some catty judges. Oh well!

"Listen for your names!"

Mike was here solely to steal her popcorn.

And not at all because he was still internally freaking out about what last week's flooding had done to some of his wares and what this week's utter bullshit (look, that was the most concise way he could think of to sum it up) was doing to what was left.

But he was totally chill. Look at him, stuffing popcorn into his mouth and being super chill. "Someone's totally getting gremlin bit, right?"

"They did last year," Brooke grinned. "Let's hope for a repeat. That I don't have to deal with personally but can watch."

"Yeah, you better not get gremlin bit," Mike declared with a smirk. "'Cause I'm not looking after you if you do."

That was very much a lie. In fact, entirely so.

"You know, I'm actually pretty sure you would?" Brooke said, maybe a little smugly.

"Bullshit," Mike replied confidently, even though it continued to be a lie. "You're on your own."

Nah. He was too whipped, or too smitten, or however you wanted to put it.

"It'd be really tempting to prove you wrong if I really didn't want to end up doing some kind of hallucinogenic performance art."

Because she knew.

"Then I guess you're just gonna have to take my word for it," he decided, smugly. Even though that smugness had no basis in reality.

He grabbed another handful of popcorn. "Though you should've competeted in this thing, still," he added. "You would've crushed everyone." Yes, even if it was gremlin fashion and not human fashion. "Or is that exactly why you're judging?"

"I'm judging because the week I sign up is the week I have to run an obstacle course through radioactive sludge, so I stay out of it," Brooke admitted. "But Anakin knows a ringer when he sees one."
